Games similar to the abe games

Does anyone know of any games of a similar style to the first two abe games?
As in, the more realistic platforming rather than either mario-esque ones or run and gunners like metroid/castlevania etc. Apparently 'Another World' is good so I'm testing that now but other suggestions would be good... as I've now played both oddysee and exodus ad nauseum.

Heart of the Darkness has a quite similar graphic style as Abe's Oddysee and Exoddus. The gameplay isn't that similar. You should check it out. It's a great PS1 game.

Oh man I know what you mean. Heart of Darkness was a very very fun PS1 game. I'd say it's a little similar to the abe side scroller games because of the puzzles. The plasma cannon controls were very fun too. I think another fun challenging game is the original 2d Rayman. I believe it is far more difficult than any of the other 3d sequels.

Yeah, rayman was ridiculous before it went 3d. Then it got a lot easier for some reason. I've heard of Heart of Darkness, so I shall have to dig out the ps1. Out of interest is it continual scrolling or screens like the abe games?

No, you climb up walls and shit, retrace your steps, swim underwater. Pretty fun.

Half Life 2.

- You're in a world where your species are enslaved. One half forced to live in cities, other half living in the wild fighting them.
- Combine could be like Sligs; they wear gas masks?
- Your playable character is idolised by allies and hated by enemies.
- Antlion guards are big and red (like Scrabs), Antlions are small and green (like Paramites), and they're wild animals!
- The forests in Episode Two reminds me of Paramonia
- The start of the game you have to escape City 17, then return again late in the game, like Rupture Farms.

Can't think of anymore...but yeah, Half-Life 2 reminds me ALOT of Oddworld, but it's still great.

Haha, yeah now you mention it, HL2 does draw a lot of parallels. But I've already completed that so in terms of finding new games, its not that helpful ;P

Yeah, too bad I can't really find it anywhere (in Finland) but I have the PC version's demo!

I got it once from a cereal box.

Link: The Faces of Evil bears an amazing resemblance to the 2D Abe games.
