Unlikely heroes

So far in the Quintology, we have seen two characters who are unlikely heroes. But they have been subclasses in the industrial world, a slave laborer and a lab experiment on the brink of extinction. I have a feeling Squeek will be the same type of character, a forgotten underdog in the developing world.
But what if OWI created an Oddysee featuring a central character of high importance. A highly influential character with high social and political power, with lots of moolah to play with. An aristocratic industrialist (like a Khanzumerz maybe) who somehow comes in contact with Munch and Abe (and probably Squeek since I'm talking fourth or fifth part of the Quintology here) and embarks on an Oddysee to the native worlds, which show him/her that industry is ensuring Oddworld's doom and influences him/her use his/her power (and moolah) to help in the natives' movements to stop industry.
A high profile character would be just as much of an unlikely hero as a low profile subclass and would be a different approach to the traditional Oddworld Oddysee. It could also help introduce the cities of Oddworld into the series. Don't you think?

Pretty good theory Shrink. When I first started reading your post I thought you were going in the wrong direction. But as I read on, the idea is plausible, probably not for Squeek, but perhaps for either the fourth or fifth quintology character.

As we know, more of Oddworld will be revealed to us as we go more into the Quintology... and ultimately we will see the huge cities of Oddworld (like our New Yorks and Tokyos I would say). Likewise, Oddworld is all about showing us something that relates to our society.

The idea you put forth would certainly be an unlikely hero. As no one would expect a creature who is engrossed in moolah to get back to his roots and realize that there is more out there than moolah (why does this sound so much like something I've heard before??? Not Oddworld related, on Earth). If this were the case though he'd probably just be a 'normal' citizen, not a high profile executive or the type.

But knowing Oddworld, I'm sure there would have to be some further twist that would show us exactly the problems this large city is producing. Whether it be pollution or destroying the planet or just showing the corruption of the society as a whole.

When you think of it ... there are many ways an "unlikely hero" could come about.

You do have a good point, as Abe Babe said. Oddworld said that what has been explored of Oddworld is the size of Nicragua, think if the planet is ten times the size of earth think of the cities, the problems, and all the wildlife so a political figure could really end up important in the big picture.

I've always wondered about the cities! Where are all these products, meat cakes, shampoos, etc, going? Are they cities of Glukkons, Sligs, or what? Maybe that's the role interns actually play in things, the civilians. Anywhoo, it should be fascinating.
Okay, I've said this before, but I think it needs to be repeated- I really think Khanzumerz is not a species, it's a play on the word "Consumers", hence the joke that they are the "most valuable creature on oddworld". Just a theory.
Oh, and, is there a gallery set up around here I can check out? So much good artwork, so little time...

I posted a topic about my interpretation of Mudosian Industrial Society a while back... Hang on while I go find it for you...

Here: http://www.oddworldian.net/oddworldforums/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1& t=001378 It's mostly there...

Of course, this is just what I think it should be like. It is almost certainly wrong...

hey, heres a stupid idea (pleez dont point and laugh) maybe Mullok will be the 5th hero. if hes gonna come back, its gonna be in an odd way, and who wudd suspect that Mullock, the Glukkon the favorite child of Margret, wudd rebel? how odd and unlikely is that? Maybe hell see that wen no1 searched Rupture Famrs for him, or that every1s out to kill em, maybe hell see that he has no more industrial power, and hell join with the natives and connnect with his roots. That wud be a good way to see mor of Gluk history. Maybe with the help of Abe and Munch and whoever theyll kill Margret. does any1 think the same?

Who said that Molluk is Maggie's favorite? I'm amazed by the amount of interest paid to Molluk, I never thought of him as anything but another high-ranking Glukkon to kill, not a major developmental character. I mean, we know about the same about him as we do Drippik or Phleg, just a little about the personality. Yeah, he's a villain, but a big, reccuring one? Doesn't really seem important enough.

I agree with you Meech, Molluk is probably just like Dripik. I think Molluk is dead anyway.
