Every once in a rare while a game comes along and disrupts the mundane flow of its predecessors, and totally redefines its genre. The upcoming Xbox title Brute Force is just such a game. Developed by Digital Anvil, part of the Microsoft development powerhouse, Brute Force is a groundbreaking tactical squad based third-person shooter, set in an extravagant science fiction universe. Brute Force will fully take advantage of the Xbox's many abilities by pumping out beautifully clean polished visuals, real-time lighting effects, and highly textured color rich characters and environments. Command a squad of four elite mercenaries and venture out on ominous missions across four individually unique cosmic worlds.

The incredibly designed worlds are a true representation of the magnitude of their title; they are not merely small enclosed areas called "worlds". These vast and dramatically different worlds include: The Volcanic Moon of Shadoon - seething with magma and dwelled in by religious zealots, who have no qualms about taking physical action to impress their fanatics upon you; The Desert World of Caspian - a world much like our very own, whose name is a reference to the land around the Caspian Sea, which this colonized and outpost filled world appropriately represents; The Feral Homeworld of Ferix - a swampy marsh filled world, whose bogs bear the heavy humidity and heat which envelope the planet; and The Shadow Outpost of Shrike - a vacuous terrain environing a labyrinth of tunnels, holding a slightly toxic atmosphere for humankind. These interesting and unique environments should prove to give Brute Force a very deep, realistic feel.

Take control of your four elite commandos in these seamlessly moulded worlds. The player will need to command their mercenaries wisely, taking into account the consequences that are imminent to every strategic decision. Because each character offers their own distinct fortes and capabilities, selecting where to position each of your mercenaries will prove to be a key tactical element in Brute Force. Each unique commando is an extremely novel presence in the game. Take control of Tex, Flint, Hawk, and Brutus and steer them through the foreboding assignments which await them. Use each of the characters - Tex; a heavy assault trooper who equalizes range and power, Flint; an elite cyborg sniper with unrivalled marksmanship, Hawk; a professional stealth scout who specializes in covert manoeuvres, and Brutus; a tender-hearted alien whose crazy disposition mirrors his brutal strength for close range encounters - all to execute the best possible combat scenario. Your mercenaries will grow and evolve as the game progresses. They will each gain power and strength, while each of their own specialties intensifies, allowing for RPG-like full character development. As each character strengthens, the whole squad strengthens as well. This interesting feature, usually not seen in third-person shooters, will add depth and a new perspective to the already involving gameplay.

The player will fully be able to utilize the strategic aspect of Brute Force. You will be able to decide your squad's tactics before setting off on an assignment. The plan for battle will be a significant determining factor on the outcome of the mission. For instance, if you choose for your squad to take a stealthy covert approach, you will engage in a more secure mission; but it may also take a longer duration of time to complete. While if you decided on an up close front line approach, the mission would be accomplished much faster; however this is at the risk of the safety of your squad. Each strategy offers its own positives and negatives, giving Brute Force a new tactical complexity. If you feel the necessity to change your course during an assignment, you can simply give orders to your squad at any time, and change your whole strategy. The player will have the ability to switch to any squad member, just by pressing a button, in order to control that character at any point in a mission. Microsoft promises to employ an easily used interface, allowing players to freely command their squad at will. This fluidity of gameplay, as well as the ability to control one mercenary while commanding the others is a very innovative method of play.

In order for any imposing character to fulfill their ferociousness, they must be properly equipped. An ample and diversified supply of alien and human weaponry and technologies will be at the squad's command. This vast arsenal will include sonic cannons, mini-guns, psychic blasts, flamethrowers, and equipment capable of raising a characters stats and abilities. Defence-type armaments including infrared goggles, stealth suits, and weapon upgrades will also be available.

In addition to its single-player adventure, Brute Force will also incorporate an exciting multiplayer mode, allowing up to four players to take part in the game's new breed of action. While the individual multiplayer modes have not yet been revealed, it may include death match, capture the flag, and even cooperative four player squad shooting action! The multiplayer feature which Digital Anvil has implemented will undoubtedly give additional, lasting excitement to the already stimulating action of Brute Force.

From all the information and stunning images which have been released thus far, Brute Force is seemingly going to be a new breakthrough amongst tactical squad based third-person shooters. Digital Anvil is taking their upcoming Xbox exclusive to the next level in gaming, with the incredibly innovative features that will shape this title. Brute Force is currently under development and is slated for a release in Spring of 2002. Brute Force is most definitely an exhilarating Xbox title which no gamer should pass up, and to which no game of the like in the near future can compare.

And check these screens out as well, I think you may not have seen all 23 before. There seem to be a few I have not seen before.

Just check this out. And the ones above for a real taste of just one of about 30 epic 2002 titles coming to the BOX. And the gameplay and longevity of games too are really inspiring.
