I just discovered!

Is there something you never realized about oddworld until recently? I don't know how far this thread will get so I'll start off.

Does did anyone realise the slig visor changes from AO to AE like a slit to eye holes. My ps1 cases are odd because in AO the slig has a visor where as in AE the slig profile has eye holes however, in the slig barracks page there is a slig with an old visor.

Yeah, I noticed that quite a while ago. Can't think of anything at the moment, I'll come back later.

The ingame sligs of AE use the same maasks as the original, except the flying and crawling slig.

Yes, they changed, because the old-style visors made the Sligs see double, and often walk off ledges. Since the introduction of the new masks suicide rates have dropped considerably.

Also, Flying Sligs used to have two flapping wings rather than helicopter blades. These often led to crashes. The new-style flypants, although not being any safer, are cheaper to manufacture.
An Slig with old-style flypants can be seen at the very beginning of AE, just before Abe falls onto the screen (y'know, after the "do the barrel roll" bit), saying "Some'in smells!"

If you're interested here's a link to the bit about the mask change in the Oddworld Libraryโ€™s unofficial F.A.Q.

I always preferred the old masks. They seemed slightly sinister, making the sligs more threatening. I think they're one of the contributing factors as to why I felt the atmosphere in Abe's Oddysee was slightly grittier (albeit a very small factor).

sorry Gandalf.

EDIT: GOD DAMN ODDJOB you keep posting simultaneously with me. i also preferred the original masks. i'm just glad the in-game sligs were left unchanged. also, having a lens for each eye seems to make them more human, if you like, whereas the previous masks seemed to cover any familiarity or 'likeability' by making them very different from yourself, and the mudokons.

or some other shit.

I wish they hadn't changed them. The goggles looked cool with the flying sligs, though. I just wish they weren't as sinister looking.

I just discovered when SW is set! From Oddworld F.A.Q

"When and where does Stranger’s Wrath take place?

Stranger’s Wrath takes place in Western Mudos shortly following the events of Munch’s Oddysee. Mudos is the country Abe and Munch live in, but Stranger is just in a different region."

What they don't tell you is that western Mudos is enclosed in a tesseract. So, really, it could be taking place at any time in Oddworld's history.

The old Sligs certainly contributed the atmosphere, plus they look cooler. I prefer AO to AE in many ways, this being one of them.

I'm quite sure that the sort of visors worn by the sligs during gameplay was consistent.

Of course. AE uses the same sprites - the Mudokons still have four fingers, for example.

Yes, I also recently noticed that in the intro movie to AE, Abe's fingers magically change from 4 to 3 in the middle of the scene without explanation.

It's also funny that the AE story stones were changed to 3 fingers even though the in-game muds still had 4.

I played in Oddworld first time in 1998 (when Abe's Exoddus was released), joined this board in Sep 2008 and starting to post in 2010 :P

Huh but its off-topic... anyway
here is one slig:

and here is a second:
http://www.gamechronicles.com/guides/exoddus/slig3.jpg
Yes they probably changed the slig's mask
