Monster PC's on there way, YE-HAH

What do you guys think? I'll be picking up four of the AMD Athlon MP processors (Code name Palomino) the 1800+ XP, that's Multi-prosessers. Need them for my studio, two in Brugge Belgium, and the other 2 in Newport beach California.

Benchmarks for single and dual processor-based platforms powered by AMD Athlon MP processors 1800+, 1600+ and 1500+ show distinct performance advantages over similarly-configured single and dual processor-based platforms powered by competitive processors operating at certain higher frequencies. For example, a workstation based on a dual 1.53GHz AMD Athlon MP processor 1800+ outperforms a similarly-configured workstation based on a dual 1.7GHz Intel Xeon processor by up to 23 percent on various application benchmarks, such as High-end Microstation, SoftImage XSI and Alias Wavefront/Maya, and 3D Studio Max.

Did you know that if the math works out on these machines that they could be up to 12-15 times faster than a current 1.4 Athlon Thunderbird or 1.8 Pentium 4, Wow.

My sets will be simply grand and as fantastic as my imagination. No more limiting my imagination due to system restraints. I'm talking 50 million poly sets. Far more spsectacular than anything yet seen, with very high levels of detail. I am very excited. Just wanted to get it out here.

Along with that the Ge-force 3 and 3 GIGS, that's right 3 GIGS of memory. No more limitations and bottlenecks.Sweet CG art, look out world my movie is coming hard and fast. Thanks for hearing me out.

I'll show some sets and concepts of the movie here, I'll let it do my talking then.

Wow...I didn't understand alot of that. But it sounds cool (the fast part I got ). Too bad I'd get the computer sooo slow with all the games and junk I'd put on it .

I'm dying to know more about your movie. You said something in another post about it being "based on a popular fiction". Does that mean I can start reading it so I know the score before it comes out? That's sooo cool that your making a movie....dang. Also what'll the tone be? Humorous? Exciting? These and many more? I guess I'll have something to tear me from my XBOX induced coma and go to the movie theatre.

Yah the PC is something else, and 4 of them, no more excuses from my artists.

I'll let the concepts and stills do my talking. As much as I would like to, my words can not give justice to the project. However I will give a small taste if it's ok.It is both exciting and humorous. Excitement with a great intensity, and humorous without being campy or cheesey.

It's an epic quest that just keeps on moving like a grand rollercoaster ride, Action, love, heroism, light vrs evil, well I can go on forever , it is all done with love and creativity at the forefront. We have just completed the Pre-production phase, 15 months of sets and character/creature design. The characters/creatures are of the highest level models, done with both Max and Maya, all the plugins the world has to offer and blood and sweat, but with great love and care.

The movie will be starting full blown animation this Febuary in both Belgium and Newport Beach California. My Bro and I head the project. We have 12 artists all ready and signed. 4 new animators will join us in Febuary, animation should be complete by April-May of 2003..Effects and atmospheric effects will be starting in Summer of 2002.Voice acting and sound effects along with music should start up by the end of 2002, at the time of a publisher jumping aboard.I already have interested parties, but will hold off until this time next year to choose the right combo for us. My Brother heads the animation. I am the head designer and director and Lorne Lanning of the project you can say. Hey my hair is almost as long as his too, just blonde.

It's a great thing to do, I put no pressure on the project or artists. I owe no one or answer to no one. It's my thing all the way. I have an idea of the time constraints and keep track of what should be done and when and am under no real pressure. I just want it done with love and passion and full on creativity. It's possible that by July 2003 to October 2003 it will be ready for the big screen. after that I would like to get into doing 2 movies every 3 years with two teams. So if all goes well I'll have 3 movies out and ready by 5 years, not bad.

I am influenced the most by Davinchi, jules verne, Disney, Tim Burton's style when he gets really deep. God I want to show someone outside my inner circle but will have to hold off a little while longer. This January I will be showing off the first ever look of the movie at a un-disclosed place as of now, just stills and concepts. In Febuary I will have a run through a couple of the sets, full on animation will be shown for the first time. I promise to show all here a look then too, along with an exclusive concept or two as well.

It is a very dark edged story with a very hard hitting and complex storyline that evolves and unfolds as the story moves on. This is no Bug's life or Antz, even though I love those movies. It does however have a light heart to it. For what is light without dark and vice versa. It's the Matrix meets Disney in a world like none other. You think Phantom Menace sets were large and or complex, just wait and see this.50 million poly sets with effects of another world and imagination and originality that would make Oddworld proud. Well I'll never stop if I keep going now.

You see what you've done now, asking me this, and now look how much I've gone on. Stay tooned, tons to come, thanks for your interest, and also thanks for letting me speak of it, sometimes it's good for you.

You're going to make a feature film with bog-standard Geforce 3s and the Athlon chip? PDI used beefier systems on Antz.

They used Silicon graphics . Times have gone way beyond that Luxo. It's all in the 3 gigs of memory and with enough PC's no problem in the world of rendering, I have rendering farms Luxo, happy for me I hope. The Ge-force 3's are the TI 500's, the new powerful bad boys. No real differnce from the Quadro's and it's kind in Max or Maya, in fact two of my workstaions have 3D labs Wildcats, they and Geforce 3 TI 500's are just fine, but thanks for your concern Luxo, that is concern you are showing is it not. There is work being done this very minute such as Anibyte with far less power, they started with 200MHZ machines, it's imagination and talent beyond all else LUXO, did you know that. The systems I have will do it all, Are'nt you happy for me LUXO. I have something like 30 PC's and 15 machines I use for my renderfarm, not including extra machines we can use from my Artists. More than we need, all duel processors to boot, nice huh?

Well you stick to that artsy game ....... what was it called again ..... Grim Fandango, oh yes, and leave the creation process to the big boys whom are qualified for the job. But thanks for your concern, very nice of you.......... wait a second, that was concern you were showing me, was it not, I hope so, I just could no live another day knowing you were attacking me.

Have a nice XBOX day, I am having one.

Back to the CG laboratory, Are'nt you happy for me Luxo, yes I thought so.

The book is titled Zerenzies zenith of revenge. It will be 900 pages long. The 2nd part will follow in Febuary 2003 with another 900 pages, both hardback. With paperbacks to follow. Both already complete.

From Tor books. It is a very difficult thing to do these days, get your book published, only 1% make it through. Tor books is the number 1 sci-fi and fantasy publishing house.

My Full-length Cg movie is based on the books, and will be whimsical, hard hitting at the same time and very adventurous. No real slow downs, or getting to involved with political discussions. Just in-depth adventure. A quest that has action, romance and no campy nonsense in its plot or story and will be just a out and out rollercoaster ride. From evil beings of all kinds to the beautiful and exotic beings. To endless lands, never slowing down, just an epic quest. At no time will the story or plot get bogged down. The scenes and landscapes are of another time and place that just have not been seen before, large scale sets of millions of polys and anything from Shrek type scenes to Matrix style sets. To be excepted by Tor books from out of no where is proof enough of what I speak. They are very excited about it. In fact they are touting it to reach the best seller lists. They have asked my Brother for a 3rd edition. Which he is at work on now.

I have read all of the classic Fantasy/sci-fi books out there, and sorry for sounding so conceited, but nothing comes close. Yes I know it's my Brothers book and I am biased towards it, but it is just that, a real epic of a different kind.

My Movie will run 2 hours based on the 1st book. To put in words what we have with all this is a injustice to what it is. 1.800 pages can not be explained in a brief synopsis with any real justice to what the book and movie will encompass. I will post screens, and concepts after the Holidays of the movie.

No Jar Jar binks type campiness, or getting bogged down in one location,or endless dialog of cheesey cheap nonsense. No plastic cheap thrills. It's all hardcore sci-fi. But again not shallow in the story department like Final Fantasy was for the most part. Not kiddie like Bugs life or Toy story 1 or 2, (even though I loved those for what they were). Creatures that rival the beasts from the Alien series and Predator to new and original beasts that just have to be seen to be believed. To hero's, and there battles and love affairs. To quirky and fun Disney type mixed with Tim Burton type characters, all without the fluff. Davinchi style technology, steam powered to Ionic style architecture to Tibetin style. On and on it goes. Inventions, life forms of inorganic and organic beings, to a little of both.

One thing I will say before I go is this remember this name: The RIG, it will be to this generation what the BATMOBILE was to the past generations. I have already modeled it and it will be in my first shown animations this Febuary. It is the Main characters Transport. You heard it here first.

Thanks for your interest SAL. I'll let you know more in the future if still interested.

The great thing about Grim Fandango was that it didn't need to have the latest graphics engine to run, and it didn't need to have fancy special effects. The technology existed to support what was already a compelling and well-told story. Plus, the game was fun.

:
It is a very difficult thing to do these days, get your book published, only 1% make it through.
The other day I saw a book called Japan's Stupidest Inventions. I'll buy you a copy if you like.

Boy, I just can't wait to read a book with an alliterative title like Zerenzies zenith of revenge. It might have some strong competition with Tom Clancy's upcoming magnum opus Clarence Cod: Fish of Vengeance.

Given the anonyous nature of the Internet, you might surely tell that Steel Shark is a thirteen years old boy with a helluva big imagination trying to fool us all with this bullshit about being a big CG industry insider, but I'm pretty sure Steel already proved that's far from the truth.

Steel, it's great to see that a busy guy, like you seem to be, has time to drop by here now and then to share with us your thoughts about things we are truly interested on (CG, video games, etc). Your movie project sounds like a huge task to accomplish. I hope we can see the results very soon.

You should be happy for the great things happening in my life, or for that matter anyones. Instead you have knocked and attacked everything I have ever commented on, I mean anything about 40-50 comments of very derogatory statements towards any of my posts that you have replied to. I mean everything, not one statement has been even remotely positve, it's a joke, and very unfair. Abe babe can attest to this, but I ask her not to get involved.

It is quite obvious why you have done so, no matter what I have ever said, and that you responded to has been a rude and low class put down, we know why, don't we.Anything you have ever commented on any of my posts has been intentionally critical or in absolute disagreement with my views. You have major issues, I say this not in jest, you have been very unfair and rude with me, I ask you to keep your opinion's to yourself when it comes to my posts. I will and have stayed away from your contrite posts myself out of common curtesy. I ask you again to leave your opinions at the door when it involves my posts, it is simple, just do not respond, your intentional antagonism and very low class pokes and jabs are very much of the lower ilk.

I ask Sydney or Abebabe to ask you to stay away, just stay away , you must understand those simple words.Do not comment on any of my statements as I will not comment on your's, is that too hard to do.

Do not respond, just stay away. There is nothing for you to say, you disagree with me on everything I have ever said and I have put up with it long enough. No reason for you to comment further. If you do so and nothing is done about it, I will say goodbye to this Forum.

Actually, I wasn't aggressive in the Antz comment - it was just an observation. I found it surprising that you're making a 4th generation CG feature using desktop hardware. And yes, I do think there's some weight to your claims, given the response from Alf a while ago.

But this strikes me as a 'low-class poke':

I have always retaliated only after your usual attacks. Never have I started. You know this.

Desktop hardware is not what it used to be. I will not give you details.

"And yes, I do think there's some weight to your claims, given the response from Alf a while ago". What do you mean, I am sure it will be something derogatory coming from you and your prior history of only negativity towards me on anything and everything. What do you mean by that statement?

That post when Alf mentioned he'd answer questions if you emailed him yourself.

Yes, desktop hardware has evolved, but Square weren't using GF3 Athlon desktops on Final Fantasy, and PDI used SGIs with faster viewport rendering than the units you described. Even Oddworld Inhabitants uses SGI units, and they don't have to churn out the amount of footage a feature film would require.

Desktop hardware evolves, but will always lag behind the technology designed specifically for film-quality rendering. It's the same with any consumer product.

I still do not understand what you mean with Alf and my email to him.

And yes I know of what is used in the industry. However I am and will produce something you will not believe when said and done. I will let "it" do my talking soon.

These PC's are for modeling. 3 gigs of memory and 1.8 XP's MP's with 3dlabs wildcats and Ge-force 3 TI 500's can crank out the best of all possible models. I have sets with a bit less power than that already that have 50 million polygons.Far out doing sets of large scale done in movies. These PC's now are more powerful than yesteryears SGI machines for movies like Antz. Sure SGI have also gotten better but for 10-15 times the cost. When animation gets here that's my Brothers thing, he will be all over SGI for that at that time.Modeling and set building can be done with these new PC's at a top notch level.

Anyways, got to go, just be a little more understanding and ease up on the attacks for every little thing.

SteelShark... your movie and brother's book sound so awesome! I can't wait to see it (or read it)... as I love sci-fi. And especially when it has a dark side to it.

A question though... as it's CG... what kind of CG will it be. I'm not good at the technical terms, but will it be more of the realistic CG like the FF movie and even Oddworld manages to produce? I really hope so... as I prefer them to that of the CG movies like Antz (although it had it's good points) which seem to give a more "rubbery" approach to animation. A movie like yours sounds like it will be so much better if it has the realistic kind of animation that can be produced today.

Either way, I'm looking forward to it. I wish you guys all the best to it ... and hope that when it comes out it goes great like it should deserve to (sighs that FF never went as good as it should have... even though it will always be known as the first "realistic" CG movie).

Abe Babe...

Hi Abe babe, thanks for your confidence. If things work out like we hope I promise you a couple DVDs and merchandise of your choice.

I loved Antz and Bug's life. As FF it too was of a different breed, but just beautiful, such classic and top notch art.I will be getting my DVD this Tuesday the 23rd.

Our movie will be filled with a real deep ambiance and grit somewhere inbetween FF and the Matrix. But at the same time there will be sets of cities and exotic landscapes both underwater and up in the heavens above. Characters and creatures will be of organic and in-organic appearance. Both with a Tim Burtonesque look and feel and at the same time FF like real look( At least we hope).

I cannot do justice in words what it will be when seen, thunderstorms, geysers, lightning, particles of all kinds of in-organic substance that flutters in the air at many different locations. A very deep look, it's not for kids, however it's not all blood and guts. It's whimsical and Steel mixed. The two opposites really contrast and bring out the other with a real bang. There are transports and models in the sets that dwarf even the Phantom menace sets. I'm talking 5 mile long real-time full on 3D models of intricate depth that will be shown in fly by battles and major chase scenes. Romance to will play a big part. Inventions of a Davinchi style( My Idol) too will play a big role. The movie takes place in a place that has no end or beginning, it just is massive, and we have attempted to really let everyone feel this with the grandest sets ever produced.

There is a very intricate storyline that involves Multi-player games and it's players and developers, I will get into story at the beginning of Febuary when we showcase our first run animations within the worlds we have created.the story is absoulutly in-depth with a grand scale. It's not save the Princess this time. It's a whole thing beyond that.

Acid rains, tidal waves, tons of other major effects, creatures of major detail, evil antagonists with there minions. But still we have shown very beautiful sets of great beauty which really contrast perfectly with the darker edged side of the other sets. Nothing cheesey, we are not looking for cheap laughs, we are looking for something you really see very little of. We are not looking to please Hollywood contemporary styles. No rap or rock music.( Even though I do like new age music and rock, not rap), but just deep booming orchestral sounds with deep sounding effects. The movie will be a deep run into a very dark and evil place, an epic jornry that goes on for thousands of miles, always with a great intensity and a feel of pressure that does not relent, but at the same time we are not looking for just Effects laden type movie, it will be surreal and give all viewers a great escape into another world. There will be horror and intensity that will chill the bone.

Well I promise to give more details and see your response or anyone else interested in a little while. Thanks for your interest and also for being a cool friend.
