Table-Top RPGs

Ok so there are probably some forum members who think RPGs are evil/dorky, but what the heck. I'm a Role-Player!!! I started out on Marvel Super heroes, and formed a group of some of my freinds. Since then we've played Dragonlance, Star Wars (the old edition), World of Darkness (including Werewolf, Mage, and Changeling), and D&D 3rd edition. We've recently started to play some Hackmaster (great game!), but since the GMG isn't out we can't play much. I also went to Origins this summer and was one of the Winners of the first Hackmaster Tournament!! Does anyone else role-play? If so what systems? And please don't just unintelligently bash RPGs.

i started out with AD&D a few years ago. Not long after that I did some Shadowrun, then I went back to AD&D...kind of gotten away from it now though sense being in the military it is hard to keep campains going.
Since then the closest I got to a 'table top' RPG is EQ (Everquest) and the online RPG's like our Oddworld RPG.

I started out with AD&D when i was 13 and played it off and on for years, until i found my true love; Vampire: The Masquerade. If you EVER get hte chance to play a game of this, then please do. it's the most intelligent of all the tabletop RPG's that i've played.

As I said before I played other World of Darkness games besides Vampire (I also own the computer game. It's pretty good. Great graphics), but I never really found the concept of Vampire interesting. Somehow having your characters be enternally damned doesn't sound very fun. That's the type of game I like. Fun and exciting. I mean, I don't want the characters to be Fluffy-Wuffy Kittens from Lolipop land, but really dreary games just don't appeal to me. That's why I like Changeling. It is sooo fun. You get to play a normal human and a crazy off-the wall faerie at the same time. I love play humorous characters that have zany antics, and in changeling that's exactly what the characters do. They fight the drab and boring and inspire creativity. Unfortunetly the rest of my group are more concerned with being able to kill stuff then role-playing. Oh well. Bottomline is Changeling is a really creative game with a great concept. The only problem is White Wolf has all but stopped making Changeling projects. But I've never played Vampire, so I don't know that much about it.

well, it's certainly not for everyone. the game can have a very serious tone, or a playful tone. just like with every other rpg, a whole lot of the experience depends on who you're playing with.

Well, I haven't tested so many RPG's but I liked them all.

Diablo II (oh c'mon, you know it!)
Torment (is it nice to remove someones tounge with a evil laugh?)
Dink Smallwood (goofy, but still, it makes you laugh..)
Icewind Dale (create your own good or bad adventuring party, I love it...)

So, I'm not really a RPG freak, but it is fun to play...

the only/best RPG i've played is FF VII, well, not including a crappy little online java thing that i played like twice...

i know i'll probably buy that super hero MMORPG for the Xbox, that looks good...

BTW, the title of this is 'Table-Top RPGs', how can you play something as big as an RPG on top of a table? is it a very very big table? is it computerised?

what he means by 'table-top' is to sit in a room with a group of fellow RPers, with dice and paper. One is the DM (Dungeon Master) who controls the campain and the NPCs, the others control their characters (PCs). It doesn't really take that much room, at in the ones I played.

Yeah, good explaination Drag... I always have trouble explaining it to people who've never role-played.
Hey Gluk, what game are you talking about? The super hero MMORPG? If you mean City of Heroes, as far as I know that's PC exclusive...But I'd love an Xbox version.

I've never played an actual RPG where you use paper and dice and stuff like that. I thought the concept of D&D was pretty interesting, but I've never been able to find anyone that would be interested in playing anything like that.

Speaking of D&D... I have a friend in America who actually knows the guy that invented the game. He had to get paid royalties when the movie came out last year.

So the only RPGs I have played are computer ones ... like FF (obviously! duh!), Diablo, etc. I love computer based RPGs... and did try to join the Oddworld RPG once, but found lack of time a problem participating.

Abe Babe...
