Security Tool Virus

I need some help with a Fake Software Virus that is on my Computer.
It looks like a Virus Scanner but its self is really a Virus called Security Tool

Last time i had it. i did a Norton 360 Quick scan and it got rid of it. Easy

But now i can't delete it
it keeps poping up saying BUY THIS SOFTWARE but i know its just a Virus trying to get my Infomation. And i can't download anything any files because it says its infected.

Can anybody help me?

YES.

Download a program called "Malwarebytes Anti-malware". Install and update it, then restart in safe mode and run it. Works like a charm. This program makes me lots o money.

Try using safe mod and deleting it (if you really can't download anything).

@crashpunk: Yeah the internet is plagued with these buggers right now. They're 'spoof' antivirus programs and are a type of malware that runs scans that you cannot seemingly control and finds worms that do not exist, then asks for your credit card number in order to sell you the 'full' version to remove the bugs. Your card gets charged double or triple the claimed price (if you're inexperienced or naive enough to do it) and the problem is still not fixed.

There are ways to manually edit the registry to remove the phony software but I've found that in nearly every case of infection with this hoax antivirus that the software I recommended cleans it out 100%.

If you need help on accessing safe mode or anything, ask.

I had this same problem on my work computer for a bit. It took a while to figure out that it was not a real anti-virus program. I think I got rid of it with AVG.

I'm really surprised. AVG is actually kick ass software, for a freebie, but in my experience typically these viruses have a way of going onto remission or 'hiding out' or even regenerating themselves when confronted with any anti virus program.

Particularly Nor-TON... or Nor-TONNE for most of you. Worthless expensive heap.

I think that if he knows in wich folder it's installed he could delete that folder in the safe mode; I did the same thing when I got the Cid trojan and I got rid of it with no problems... then I don't know, I'm not so expert with antivirus!

Problem with that method is that these viruses often register DLL files and plant them in the windows\system32 folder, along with numerous other keys which are all ways that the virus can 'replicate' itself.

Well, the trojan "CiD" is a little application that opens advertisements while using Internet, it was contained in a folder with other two files if memory serves me right; maybe crashpunk's problem is worse than mine... I don't know! All I know is that I've got that problem (and so that trojan) no more!

Generally, adware typically does nothing but monitor the websites you visit and pop up ads on your screen that are specially 'tailored' to your interests. Most free software, including trial versions, come with some kind of adware. Search Toolbars are the worst, particularly ones that suddenly install themselves and appear under your browser address bar. "My Web Search" is a common one. Some are so bad they 'redirect' your regular search engine through their own, which is chock-full-o ads.

Yeah, it sounds like you probably got it, but if you have a few minutes I definitely recommend this program. It'll check for any vestiges you may have missed.

Search bars are usually easily removable too, though "My Web Search" can be a bear in some cases because it installs shit in the registry.

It should make whatever's messing your computer around fuck off for as long as you need to use Malwarebytes, but make sure to use it as SOON AS YOU CAN.

You'll need an XP Home CD to start the computer off of. When windows setup loads, it will offer an option to press "R" for recovery console. Once in recovery console you'll be met with a pseudo-dos prompt where you can enter commands. Three commands ought to do the trick, unless your drive has had some kind of physical damage.

First, run CHKDSK.

After CHKDSK is done, run FIXMBR. Confirm/continue through any warnings and prompts that may pop up.

After FIXMBR, run FIXBOOT.

Then, after you run all three of those, restart the computer and eject the XP disk.

I got something similar called; 'Antivirus System Pro'. I started up windows in safe mode and then did some shit in the registry.

I'm back. i couldn't download the Malwarebytes Anti-malware because the Virus stopped Downloads. So i blanked my computer and just restarted it from the start. the Virus is gone ^^

Another option in those extreme circumstances is to use a friend's computer to download and burn to disc.
