Yeah, I keep going back, but I keep getting shot by dickheads who find it fun to prevent other people from actually participating in the environment. Yeah there are other annoying things you can do in there, like shoving people about as an Elum and shutting them in cages, and true I've engaged in and even designed some of these. But there're all peanuts compared to going about shooting people. Shooting needs to be turned off when no gaming or RPing is taking place, otherwise I'm not going back.
Being locked in a cage is just as annoying as being shot.

Part of the appeal of the Oddworld dream is the shooting (It's miles better than any shooting I've seen on any other dreams) so turning it off unless the admin wants it on would be a great disappointment.

I agree with fuzzle-guy, but would it be possible to turn shooting off for individual members so they can't shoot or be shot (at their own choice)? Maybe with a 1 minute delay in activation/deactivation or something so they cant use it to cheat in games? (Great, Aji's not been back a week and I'm already thinking up difficult things for her to code)

It's relatively easy to get out of a cage if you turn into an Elum and jump out. Cumbersome, but not impossible. And then you're not likely to get trapped again, because let's face it the only way to get locked in a cage unvoluntarily is to get tricked. And since it mostly happens during a game that's explicitly Hey Let's Free These Guys From This Cage (when shooting would be appropriate anyway), it's not a hindrance to having a conversation.

It is a hindrance when you sit about for a couple of hours waiting for someone to chat to only to get shot by some belligerent maniac. Yeah shooting's fun, but when it takes a shit on the social aspect of the game you need to reprioritize.

It would be nice if we could setup some standard times for chat... since I can't see anyone and it's starting to annoy me that nobody is on when I'm on

Variables to turn off the ability to shoot ('Chase mode') do exist.

More 'individual' methods of control are difficult because DS works in such a way that doing anything for individual players is difficult or impossible (ugh.) I'll think about better solutions rather than just shutting everything on or off.

Yay! It's back up! :P

Sucks for me though...
I've been having some computer problems and I had to do some kinda of crap to try and fix it them...didn't work so now all my stuff including my Furcadia person is on another hardrive...thingie and not on here.
I was able to find some of the sites and junk that I had on it but still...I can't go on Google and install Furcadia again cause of this stupid virus...

If I can hopefully install it on my parents computer I'll get back into the OW dream for sure!!

Well some of them will be inconvinient for some people. Hopefully we can have two in the morning and two in the afternoon. The idea is that if people attend at least two times, they will find friends.

Rather than having specific meeting times, I think we should consider specific 'checking to see if anyone else is online' times.

I advise that if you're hoping to meet other people on the dream, you check every hour, on the hour (1:00, 2:00, etc). That way, if everyone logs on at that time and waits about 10 minutes you increase your chances of meeting people, rather than everyone logging on any time, finding no one there and leaving only for someone else to come on 10 minutes later and leave cus no one's there!

So from now on, just log on on the hour and wait 10 minutes. If we all do that we increase our chances of running into each other.

We should try both. But your hour idea is good.

I request two things;
1) Since the game is back up again, this topic should be stickied.
2) You need to get rid of the furc://slig: oddworld link, since it's confusing

How about instead utilising furcadia pounce? Add people to it and see who appears online? the thing does still run when you are offline from furcadia so you can quickly run onto it when someone appears.
I've not had furcadia open in ages, sowwy

Serious question:

Is anyone capable of leaving their computer on at all hours of the day and running Furcadia in a corner while they do so?

I know (of) someone with a server. I really couldn't say they'd host it, though, and they're a bit of a tyrant, too.

That's mighty thoughtful, but what I need isn't a server, even. Just for someone with any regular computer to be on Furcadia's server and make sure that Oddworld doesn't go down.

I am usually on the computer from 9am to 12am (midnight). I'm in England and use GMT+0. (This is about -6 hours to you for the Americans out there). Maybe I can help.

I don't know her in person, just spoken to her on the internet. She hosts some other stuff, but she wouldn't do it for someone she didn't know at all, and I think she doesn't like me at all.

There was some forum spam a while back and she banned me from it. However things have calmed down now and I'm on it again, just trolling along.

Anyway, it gets real hot here in Summer (which it is now) so I can't leave the computer on all day. And how much download/upload would it use?

Maybe in Winter, if not to much, I could leave it running from around 0000 GMT to 0800. Maybe to 0900, which is when AlexFili can get on! And then he's on 'til midnight again... that's a long time on the computer, but anyway.

It's not my internet though. But I could probably do it most days.

Well... it's Summer here for me. I say I can do it in Winter, so that's not for a few months. I may be able to do it sometimes in Autumn/Spring.

I guess Alex can start running it now, and I'll do it when the weather cools down... probably. I hope to do so but seeing as it's me, something will probably happen to stop me.

Yes and no...
The game is Furcadia but in the style of oddworld. Put simply it's a Mod of a free downloadable game (I think).

I would play this but we just got windows 7 and I don't have admin status on my computer (therefore there's nothing on it at all). So I can't set it up and if I could I would need admin status to go online with it (such a pain).

I really enjoyed the chatroom, but there was always no indication of whether there were people online or not... it was really hit and miss. However, I would like to see if we could make it popular again.

There's a move to increase it's activity. What I need is an avid Furcadian who doesn't mind having the game on 24/7, Oddworld fan, AND someone who has more free time than I do now that I'm in uni. I believe that I've found one such person. I'll keep you guys updated as to how this goes.

It really is difficult to keep the dream up when activity is so low. Ideally, it shouldn't be a 'meet up at x time' thing, rather, a 'drop by whenever you want and find people there' thing, as PokeParadise is. There might be times when it's boring and you have to sit around and wait to see more people. Please try to be patient and hang around, otherwise activity cannot accumulate and the cycle of one person being here at a time continues. If there is any way that you can keep Furcadia open while you do other things, please do so.

Aji, can I suggest removing the greeter from the entrance hall? It's the best place to meet people, but the greeter talking makes it an annoying place to hang around waiting for people with your sound on. And gamespeak is the best way to get someone's attention.
