I always figured there was some Glukkon loser sat being an operator on those fones. Thinking about it now, that's probably not all that feasible. But it would explain why the fones always sound so bad-tempered.

posted. It sounds like a Glukkon because it's the same voice as for a Glukkon Voice Lock, which sounds like a Glukkon because Slig Voice Locks sound like Sligs, which do so because Sligs have to mimic them.

I always thought the Voice Locks were automated, whereas with the Fone he's actually speaking to someone.

Well, seeing as it looks like the same slig is operating all the security gates, my presumption is 'not many'. The operators probably sit at a screen, accepting short orders and performing them quickly. I'm guessing long, chatty conversations don't happen all too often.

Besides, there aren't that many Glukkons in each factory, so far as we've seen. Off the top of my head, the Brewery is the only one we've seen to have multiple Gluks onsite.

I think Nate is right. In real Life we have lots of phones at workplaces and whatnot... But there's still a small team of dedicated to take calls and perform tasks.
It's probably not so different on oddworld.
