Name: Elstavo
Species: Ramstigg
Habitat:
Industrial creatures. Formerly swamp-dwellers like Sligs. They love rain and smog and are often found skulking around in the slums and industrial districts of Oddworldian cities. They are also nocturnal, but living in the cities under smoggy skies allows them to congregate during the day as well.
Lifestyle:
It is considered to be healthy for a Ramstigg to have fungi growing on their bodies, as they live in cool, dark places. The fungi that grows produces vital nutrients that the Ramstigg absorbs through their skin. Because of this, Ramstigg's have an unmistakable mildewy odor.
They dislike wearing synthetic fabrics as they consider it unnatural and their skin is sensitive to chemical allergens. Instead, Ramstigg's only wear clothing made from animal hide. The most popular among them being Paramite Skin leather.
They are omnivorous, though they prefer large, thick cuts of red meat so as to put their large jaws to good use. Whereas Sligs prefer cigarettes, Ramstigg's prefer the liquid libations. Despite alcohol being a large part of Ramstigian culture, they have a very high tolerance for it, and only one such drink can get a Ramstigg drunk:
Stiggma. Stiggma is a powerful alcoholic brew made from fermented Budge (a fruit similar to a mango). When Budge is fermented, it becomes bitter, so an Oddworldian form of
defrutum is added to the mix to sweeten it (though more hardcore Stiggma is known to lack the sweetener).
The concept of dental hygiene is lost on Ramstigg's, and their breath can kill.
They are reasonably intelligent, but reserved. Their vocabulary rivals that of a Glukkon, but their thick tongues makes their speech somewhat slurred. Their voices are deep and rich, think a slightly more groggy James Earl Jones. Despite their intimidating appearance, Ramstiggs are not violent by nature, though living in the city slums has wrongly associated them with crime. They usually live in poverty, often by choice, as they prefer simple lifestyles and tend to favor the conditions of underprivileged neighborhoods. There are, however, a handful of Ramstigg's living in the upper echelons of society working as businessmen.
They have good eyesight for having such small eyes, but have a very poor sense of smell. They can run very fast despite having an awkward gait. Their long spindly fingers are second only to Interns in dexterity.
