Oddworld Would you label Oddworld as a "Cult Classic"?

Just wondering if you guys would label it as that?

No, because a cult classic is generally something that wasn't popular when it was released but had a small, core following that grew and spread out. AO & AE were both very popular and sold very well.

AO and AE were indeed very popular. Not only for PC but for PS1 as well. Unfortunately they moved onto the Xbox... while their creativity wasn't hampered, the majority of users continued with PS2 and PC and so missed out on fantastic games. Stranger's Wrath got a number of accolades, including being one of the best third-party Xbox-only games.

It's a real shame that they haven't done anything in such a long time. I only hope that they make something soon, even if it's just a little PSN/WiiWare/XboxArcade thing... just to show us that they're still alive!

The Xbox games' lack of success was not because the established fan base all had PS2s. If MO had been a better game and if SW had been better promoted, they would have created new fanbases.

They're classic for their fans. But no any cults there, thank you!

Some old films that I quite like are considered to be 'cult classics' and were very popular when first released too. Guess it depends on what you think a cult classic is. Certainly classic I'll say that *written while playing AO yeah...*

I wouldn’t say Oddworld is a cult classic, as it has a huge fan base encompassing many kinds of person. However, it does most certainly have a cult following. But then so many things do.

Labyrinth and Dark Crystal were both very popular on release and certainly took in more than their production values in the first couple of weeks. Both are considered to be cult classics

No, not a cult classic. AO was SO popular when it was released on PS1 that Abe, along with Spyro the Dragon, was considered one of Sony's "unofficial mascots". Way too popular from the start.
