Why are some games not released in all countries?

It's really not fair when companies do this... take my second favorite game series Final Fantasy for example.

Recently FFIV and Crono Cross were re-released in the US as Final Fantasy Chronicles. Do we get this here in Australia? NO

Then FF Tactics was re-released... we aren't going to get this one either.

The same was when FFVI and FFV were re-released as Final Fantasy Anthology... we didn't get that either.

I don't think Europe got them either.

I think it is unfair that companies do not release games to all countries (or at least all main countries/formats).

For instance... Sony tries to prevent the mod chipping of consoles due to the fact that people can play pirated games when a console is mod chipped. I'm no expert on the PS2, but I don't think a good, reliable mod chip has been bought out for it yet (I am probably wrong here). But on the other hand, a mod chip is the only way you can play games from other countries on your PSX.

Really, this is pretty unfair... if I want to play these other FF games I have to get them on import and get my PSX mod chipped. When I move to getting a PS2 (which won't be until FFX comes out here) then I hope I can get a mod chip for it so that I can play these import games.

Anyone else know of any other games that don't get a release in their own country?

Yeah that annoys me to. I think they do it because they think that a type of game won't sell in certain countries (thats why Japanese game markets are overflooded with literary 100's of games and only a few make it to other countries).

There's a game called parasite evil or something like that and that never got released in the U.K. It was a horror/RPG game.

I went nuts looking for a copy of Ragnar Tornquist's The Longest Journey in Melbourne until I discovered the only store with imported copies. I'm not even sure if the resale was legal, but it's annoying to find that this excellent game didn't get the mass release it deserved.

It took two years until the TLJ was properly released in North America after its debut in Europe. Maybe this was because of low demand for adventure games.

It's weird that a series as popular as Final Fantasy has seen similar problems. Wasn't VII the very first one to be released in Australia?
