Although the colours are picked up better, there is a horrible fuzzy effect going on in the second GIF that I don't like.

That "fuzzy" effect is the dithering. The reason it's more visible on the second one is because on the first I optimised as well as dithered. But when I do that on the second it seems to mes up and looses most of the colour.
...Oh and the initial difference is that the frames are fixed in the second as the first is jumpy and slow.
