Most everything relevant's been said already.

The attention this person is getting is pretty annoying, but I don't think I'd wish cancer on her just because she's a moron. What annoys me the most is the fact she's attentiong whoring it. Hmm, you discover you have terminal cancer and have 6 months to live, what do you do? Go for magazine and newspaper interviews, television shows and crap and get big £££ out of it as well as sobs and attention for you, despite the fact you are far less deserving of it than most people who get cancer by contrast. This is what is unjust. This isn't the sort of thing you do when you discover you're dying, it is totally immoral and just shows what kind of person you are.

You could look for a silver lining. Maybe more people will donate to cancer medical research and pastoral care after investing so much attention on the decline of St Goody.

I find it a bit off that such a stupid person should be one to generate positive attention for donating to such a worthy cause. People should really be donating anyway if they really care.

Raising money for these types of things counts on playing on people's emotions. Look at the starving kids in Africa fund, look at the 'save the celebrity' fund; you get played like a fiddle into "caring" when really all that's happening is that you're getting played into feeling guilty. It's a good business.

If one really cares about something it doesn't need a commercial or celebrity alignment to solicit emotion from one to "care" ("care" being used loosely because that's what they're trying to make you feel like you're doing.)

True and true, but missing the point. This is free cancer awareness. I don’t know whether I’d prefer weepy adverts with gooey-eyed actors telling me how much they miss their loved ones, or St Goody’s face plastered across the front of a tabloid—neither is desirable—but once I step away from that irritation I hope it does encourage more charity from people.
