If the experiment used deception to lure in it's participants then the ethical flaws in such a study would be immense, what happens if you show a picture of a naked child to a fifty year old lecturer and he has a heart attack? Or if you have fundamentalist christian undergrads throwing up and claiming lawsuits left right and center? This is what I meant earlier when I said that such a study would just not pass.

lol come on that's just nonsense... you never saw a naked child in your life? we do not speak here about pornography! such a reaction is totally exaggerated. you went to a church? there are all flying naked kids on the wall (at least most in europe) (putti) and i think no heart attacks or chundering due to this.
i think we should all deal with this subject a bit more easy. i am not up to define down child porn! that's a totally different subject! anyone who trades with it should be imprisoned.
but you have to concede a point to me, that it's a bit paradox to say, a small girl is an asexual being, but most of them get dressed up like women, have haircuts like women and i even saw some having ( wearing ) nail varnish, that's pushing her into a gender role (same to boys, wearing leather jackets)

i am sure your head wont explode by looking at a photo with a naked child on it.

It should be noted I was pretty drunk by the end of that post

OH FUCK A DOUBLE POST
that makes you very sympathic Skøl !

I am not talking about my own personal viewpoint, I am talking about reseach facilities having to be very careful they do not upset participants, have you SEEN some of the things you can be sued for in America?

Lying about an experiment and then showing a participant pictures of naked children while watching the front of his trousers with a worrisome intent?

Uh WoF, I don't think they would advertise on a page wide ad saying in big bold red letters that they are looking for people who want to see child porn or whatever. It's prolly more along the lines of "Looking for people for an experiment" and they'll hear what it's about when they signed up and they can always decide to go away. A small background check is run on whoever is left and anyone with a history of child abuse is scrapped off the list (if only to make the results more accurate) and any other people who don't match the criteria.

Just because something is illegal doesn't mean it can't be used to do research or whatever. Where do you think The Coca-Cola Company gets their spent coca leaves? There's only one place in America that's allowed to handle Coca leaves and the cocaine that's extracted from it. It's illegal anywhere else but they have gotten an exception.

Exceptions can be made for all sorts of stuff as long as the proper paperwork is filled in.

Universities, especially social science departments, run by far more stringent policies than you may think. Look up a man called Stanley Milgram, one of the greatest psychology experiments ever and it would not be allowed to run these days simply because American and European governments do not like that stuff.

And Havoc, I think you're narrowing the options just a little too far, just because someone hasn't got a history of child abuse does not mean they mightn't have a more than neutral ground for for seeing the stuff. In the wrong hands social science is a fucking dangerous weapon.

This is what I was trying to say in the first place. Except I have a tendency to get angry too easily when people say stuff that is obviously wrong, e.g. "You can't use CP for research into CP because it's illegal".

@WoF: Please quote to me the policies that you refer to. And a sane experimenter wouldn't include a description of the experiment in the ad.
