1. Saying: 'We apologize" counts as saying sorry.
|
I'll concede that this is splitting hairs but it was the word 'sorry' that everyone felt was meaningful.
:
2. Oh for the love of good; where did I say: "I think it's a great idea to take children from the families", of coarse It's horrible thing.
|
I never said you did. I was emphasising why the apology was so important.
:
3. Why should the government say sorry for something the opposition did years ago. So shouldn't liberal party say sorry not the ALP.
|
For one thing, this was a program that occurred over a century, from approximately 1869 to 1969 - both parties were involved. In any case, the parties are unimportant. It was the Australian Parliament and Government who enacted these policies and thus it is those institutions who must apologise. What's more, as I was trying to say in my previous post, you can't just blame the parliament; they are the elected representatives of the nation of Australia and, as such, the guilt lies upon the entire country.
:
4. The government was apologizing for the stolen generation. Nothing Else.
|
I said 'start'. The Stolen Generation is but one of the many issues facing relations between the Aborigines and the rest of Australia. By apologising, it allows the communities to move forward and focus on the issues of today.
:
5.The Aborigines have been sending the government letters requesting for a 'sorry' for years now
|
As have most of white Australia. And they're full within their rights to do so, seeing as we're a democracy.
:
Sure there is petrol sniffing, drug dealing and even gang attacks but very few aborigines are effected by poverty.
|
So having no money and entire communities unemployed and on the dole doesn't count as poverty?
