Lorne refers to him as he. Everyone refers to him as he. Munch is a he.

LOL! For me is female because at the end of Munch's Oddysee she takes care of the 150 Gabbit Eggs ^_^ And usually it's a female to do it...

There are plenty of males in animal kingdom that rear their children. There are even certain animals which will switch genders in dire straits.

However, Munch is a confirmed male.

OWI is hardly going to show that...

Amphibians have no genitalia, their form of mating is different to in mammals, gender can't be determined easily externally unless tehre are other differences between the genders. Same applies to fish. Don't try to apply mammalian laws to Oddworld's creatures for determining gender.

Hell, do you know the reproductive habits of the seahorse?

There has been a lot of discussion about whether or not the eggs have been fertilised, something Munch might have to do. A male Munch.

I may have tackled this subject somewhere in this general area.

Gabbits have eggs.
So do Mudokons. In the same game, in fact.

Abe is called ‘he’ as well, but he’s gender‐neutral. Sligs are also gender‐neutral, but they’re normally ‘it’s.

:
There has been a lot of discussion about whether or not the eggs have been fertilised, something Munch might have to do. A male Munch.

I may have tackled this subject somewhere in this general area.
Good to know that conclusions can change following research.

The idea that Munch would have to fertilize the Gabbit eggs was first asked by GrigtheSlig in a Q&A thread. I reacted with shock, because I’d never heard of the idea. The most OWI have ever publicly divulged about Gabbits, AFAIK, is that Munch has a mother (a truly enlightening fact brought to us by Paul O’Connor in a designer diary (which will soon be readable on the Oddworld Scriptures, by the way)). Started by his initially mentioning it, the idea soon caught on and was accepted by several members as a fact.

(As an aside, it was already a popular theory that Gabbits do come with regular males and females of a fairly 50/50 divide, based on Paul’s comment, plus the idea that Gabbits live in pods which are known to be their family.)

However, now that this topic has been brought up, a couple of things occur to me. Firstly, Xav also remembers it. Xav also ‘remembered’ that Kintos carry Maggie long before it was ever confirmed in The Art of Oddworld Inhabitants. To this day I’m not sure where he got that jewel of knowledge from (although just recently I have recovered a post that refers to a new type of slave that carries Maggie, but it doesn’t identify Kintos by name or description, plus it’s in the Exoddus Club, a private group Xav was never a member of. To summarize this point: I trust Xav.

Secondly, GrigtheSlig is Oddguy’s brother. Oddguy, in case you didn’t know, was lucky enough to win a win a signed copy of the art book when he phoned in to a live interview with Lorne Lanning on G4TV, and correctly won a competition by answering ‘no’ to the question ‘Do Abe’s stitched lips have anything to do with him not having teeth?’. Anyway, Lorne then elaborated that Sam actually sewed up Abe’s lips because he cried a lot, keeping him alive. This is actually a contentious issue, because although this explanation come from Lorne himself, we know Sam is kept by the Vykkers and Abe was hatched in RuptureFarms. Anyway, the really odd thing is that Oddguy, over a year before Lorne dropped this continuity bombshell on everyone, had ‘heard somewhere’ that Sam sewed Abe’s lips shut. To summarize this point: Oddguy knew things before he could have through public channels, and Grig is his brother, so it may be completely official that Munch has to fertilize the eggs, only it has never been said publicly by anyone official.

No, I just am ultra skilled in combining Google searches and the vB search engine to find back things I rememeber. It comes from practice. Actually, in this case, several of the things I mention are on my mind because I’ve just recently been overhauling the FAQ.

But no joke, I did once start going through the entire forum history with the intention of bookmarking everything especially relevant. I didn’t get far. In fact when I gave up it was the very same instance I became a man, i.e. lazy.

I think when Gabbits reach Ma'Spa a sort of magic atmosphere wraps them and so they can spawn their eggs. I don't nkow much about Ma'Spa because I must translate that page of the artbook and it's hard. But this is my thought.

...so when you talk about 'magic' you mean instincts, right?

Ma Spa is the sacred spawning ground of the Gabbits to the native Mudokons and perhaps to the Gabbits also. But it is merely a place, nothing else, no 'magic' is involved. No magic exists in Oddworld. Psychic powers yes, magic is rather different.

I meant this but it's not a spawning ground for Mudokons because Sam gives birth to Mudokons in a secret industrial place... not in Ma'Spa. I think the Mudokons we see in Ma'Spa pics are only guardians.

Psychic powers yes, magic no. Those are two rather different aspects.

It mentioned in the art book that the Gabbits journey up to Ma'Spa is sacred to the Mudokons, so presumably Ma'Spa itself is. Perhaps it was even constructed by Mudokons in the first place. We don't know enough about what culture Gabbits may have, if any at all, that may make them believe it is sacred in any way.

In real life it is an arbitrary distinction. I want to say "potato potato," but it doesn't exactly work in text.

Or does it?

\pə-ˈtā-(ˌ)tō, pə-ˈdā-bə-\

I'm loathe to admit the existence of either (not potatoes), but since this is a fictional world in which several characters appear able to perform amazing world-altering feats by some unseen and seen power, we must entertain the possibility of there being fantastic abilities accessible to mudokons at the very least.
