Ack! Major bummer alert! The characters will be controlled with the analogue stick, and the camera with the D-pad! Noooo! I
hate controlling stuff with an analogue stick; I just can't get the hang of it. I really hope that there is an option that lets you swap those round (i.e. camera with stick, characters with pad).
What I really like in a game is complete control over what each button does. In the WipEout games you can either use the default controls, or you can swap all the button functions around to whatever configuration is easiest for you. For example, in Wip3out, the default controls are X for accelerate, Square to discard a weapon, and O to fire a weapon. Because the buttons are arranged like so:
# /\ #
[] # O
# X #
(# doesn't represent a button; they're just there to keep the ASCII art in place)
this means that in order to fire a weapon (O), you have to take your thumb off the accelerator button (X). However, because I can reconfigure the controls, I make [] into the accelerate button, and X into the fire button, so I can fire a weapon with the 'heel' of my thumb without taking my thumb off the accelarator.
Back to my original point. Because MO is absolutely stuffed with great graphics and gameplay, it may not be possible to squeeze button re-configuring ontothe disc as well. But if it is possible, I really hope OI include it. It can make games really easier, and shaped to the player's own style. It also amounts to enormous fun when your little bro puts the game on pause and leaves the room for a while, and you re-arrange the controls while he's away and really baffle him when he comes back ("Hey! Why am I going backwards?")!
