Well, these people are entitled to remain handicapped and mentally incomplete if they want, as long as they pay for all their treatment with their own money, don't expect special treatment (after all, they're just different, not disabled), and can follow the same rules as us "neurotypicals" or what ever self castrating, PC crap is being invented to make sucessful and healthy people feel bad for being normal, functioning human beings.

Anyone who would want to suffer from Asperger's for all eternity is an idiot, period. I have had the disorder and quite frankly it is a horrible, crippling disability that should not be sugarcoated as anything other than a life wrecking virus that should die a 1000 deaths in the bowels of Hell. Comparing it to homosexuality and blackness is reprehensible, as being gay doesn't prevent you from functioning as a human being and neither does being black.

And if one single asshole tries to prevent me from treating my autistic/deaf/blind/whatever child, the only special treatment they'll receive is an allowance of "Mind your own business" and "Parent your own kids".

So, autism and Asperger's should be treated in the womb, and the genes associated with the bad disorder not removed. Everybody wins. And the worthless sacks of dung who want to cripple their children to become part of some cult(ure) can go and initiate self fertilization procedures.

Hmm. My views about children, with me, are very split.
On one hand, I think most children are absolute scumbags and should all be sent into bootcamps to teach discipline and 'build character'.
On the other hand, those children aren't mine. I can't disciple them, but with my own, I could if needed. And also the soft mushy gooey warm side of me would probably be happiest, looking down at a tiny face in my arms. Or, more likely, two- the family history of genes from my father's side says that I'm going to have twins. O_O

So if in the event that I do end up popping a few sprogs, I've already got some lovely names picked out. Girls- Naomi, Jessica. Boys- Benjamine, or Jay. I would actually prefer to have boys, as I've seen from first-hand experience that girls can become absolute turds when they reach puberty.

Do you even know what Aspergers is? I hope you were being ironic in calling it a virus but either way it's really not something you get better from.

As for me, I don't plan on having kids. Partially that's due to biological inability, what with my lack of an XX-chromosomal partner but it's mainly because leading youth groups and camps taught me how goddamn irritating kids are and how bad a father I would be (I'm really not patient enough). I'm planning to be a wonderful uncle but I'll be quite happy to be able to hand the kids back at the end of the day.

I was being ironic, and I know it is a supposedly lifelong mental disorder which reduces the size of social lobes in the brain while increasing others related to skill. It is indeed possible to get better from, but it is a difficult thing to get better from, like cancer, and many have the disorder their entire lives. Like cancer, large amounts of money and effort are being put towards its eradication, and it is genetic.

Please know I was not being 100% serious there. I deliberately hyperbolize nearly everything I say for reasons which even I am at a loss to explain. But still, autism (or any other mental disorder) isn't something one wants to have, and I would consider anyone who tried to make their child autistic in order to become part of some sick "culture" (no pun intended) to be unworthy of eating apoptotic colon cells.

Well I have autism Patrick, and I just wouldn't wanna cure it for some reason...I'd feel like I was taking away some part of me if I did....Wait, why do you say you used to have Aspergers? That makes no sense to me.

On topic......I think I have a 10% chance of passing on autism to a biological child.

Zozo, that is just plain sad. In fact, it's the saddest thing I've heard since the death of Orianna Fallaci.

Curing a mental disorder does not mean you are killing yourself. If I had schizophrenia, I would immediately get medicine for it. If I had multiple personalities disorder, I would immediately get treatment for it.

A mental disorder is not you. It's irrational and suicidal to be attached to a mental disorder like it's a part of you. It's not, it's a flawed area of your brain based on faulty genetics. I am not saying you are a bad person, nor do you have less of a soul. But for the love of God, I will for once be serious. Get treatment for a mental disorder. They are no laughing matter, and treating them will be to your brain what chemotherapy is to cancer.

I honestly tell you this as a friend; Your autism is not part of you. It is not you. It is not a fundamental part of your soul or being. It is a disorder which needs to be cured, and on it being cured, you will have a better life. It is not like homosexuality or blackness, because neither of these things impede a person's life except by prejudice from others.

Please, get treatment. It is indeed possible to recover from autism, but it is difficult. And it's not using chelation, by the way.

@Hobo; Nice name. You share it with the heir of HRH the Queen. Or.. ARE YOU THE HEIR? You also share it with one of my favourite people, Charles Johnson.

@Marvak; Yes.
On Topic: Most teenagers are sex crazed angsty trendy idiots, so no. I'd only adopt a castrati who's good at maths, or a Down's Syndrome ninja.

I'm already a step unlce (My sister is 30) and nearly a real one, my sister lives in England, so I can step in the role when I'm bothered to go over there. As for children, one thing I left out is I plan to have children as early as I can, and I'm not leaving it late, like others have.

No, you were being an idiot and an absolute douchebag. Your belated attempt to research Aspergers on Wikipedia notwithstanding, you've also completely failed to understand the mindset of anyone on this planet who is not you. As Zozo pointed out, autism or Aspergers may be mental conditions but many people who have them actually prefer being that way because it gives them abilities that so-called 'normal' people don't.

In the case of Aspergers, people can often have extremely high intelligence and the ability to focus exclusively on one task without being distracted. On example I heard about recently was Bram Cohen, who developed the BitTorrent technology over several years in his spare time. He's credited Aspergers as giving him the ability to stick with the project and not drift off onto other things.

I was supposed to have Aspergus, and I was diognosed not to have it fortunatly, for me anyway because I want to be normal.
That being said, I find your definition disgusting Patrick, and while skim reading I misread it for alsymers.
Aspergus is a syndrom, but labeling it a disorder is crude, and as it is a syndrom, it cannot be cured, like down syndrom, but it the symtoms can dissapear and someone who appears to have "recovered" from it most likely never had it.
I have symtoms of it, but do not have it, but most children show signs of symtoms which later are shed for adolence.
It is not a curse as such, merely makes you different from everyone else, as my belief that most people have a mental disorder of some sort, making us differenlty minded, so we are not one minded drones, and mental disorders are merely ways of group different minds, and how different minds think.
It is not life crippling in a sence that even if you do have it, it can be muted to a level that it is undectable.
