OMG OMG OMG.
I was talking to this guy today about
The Orange Box (due out Oct. 9, by the way), and he was saying how he was watching G4's E3 coverage, and Valve announced a game totally out of left field that went completely under the radar because no one had even heard of it.
The game is called "Left For Dead." It's a class-based shooter... online...
zombie game. Humans vs. Zombies in a survival match. Humans get whatever they can find in the environment, like power tools or a pistol hid under a mattress or something, but they gain access to more hardcore stuff (like machine guns) the longer they stay alive. If they die, then they don't get to use their particular character again; they have to wait until one of their teammates finds more survivors holed up in the wreckage, then they can respawn as a new survivor.
Meanwhile, there are hordes of AI-controlled zombies chasing them. However, the other team gets to control one of several super-powerful mutated zombie classes, each with distinctive abilities. These are the ones I heard about
:
- A zombie with chameleon-like skin that can press himself against walls and turn invisible. The only thing that gives away his position is his heavy, asthmatic breathing, which should lead to some highly paranoid moments for the other team.
- A fat zombie that can vomit infected blood, which attracts all nearby AI-controlled zombies, on a human player.
- A zombie that looks like any other AI-controlled zombie... only he has a gigantic tongue that whips out like a frog. This class can hang off the edges of rooftops, grab a human by the neck, and strangle him with his tongue.
- A gigantic, muscle-bound "tank" zombie that can rip blocks off of walls and, likewise, rip humans in half.
Apparently, Valve showed it to this G4 schmuck at E3, and he was all like... "Do what now?" because he wasn't even expecting to be shown any footage or anything.
Does anyone have anymore info on this?!
