Heya Shem! Don't worry, you're in the right place
Mudokons can be strangely difficult to draw, I've had a fair share of it myself
I'll do my best now, but without visual aid (I haven't got time to do it just now) you may find it a little tricky, but that's okay, you'll figure it out.
*clears throat* Here we go;
First of all, you have your pencil, your rubber, and your blank page, yes? Also handy is a good picture of a Mudokon that'll be used as reference (
this one's pretty good). We'll start by drawing (LIGHTLY!!!!!) a nice medium-sized circle on the page. This will be your lil' Mud's head.
Then, lightly draw in a line that you'll use as the Mud's 'spine'; pretty much goes from the bottom of the head to the top of the hips.
Speaking of which, you pencil in the hip bone next (you can use just about any shape for this, though I like to use a sort of butterfly-looking thing).
Okay, you with me so far? Head, spine, hips. These are very important parts of the picture, as they form the 'frame' that your Mud's body is held up with.
Oh, I almost forgot! Draw the ribcage. Shoulders at the top, little curvy stuff at the bottom. Mwah.
Next, draw in lines for your legs and arms. It's handy to put in little circles where the elbows and knees are, so you can remember where the limbs bend.
Then put in some shapes (whatever you want really
) to represent the hands and feet.
ATTENTION!!! What you have just done, the 'skeleton' of the Mud, is THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE PICTURE!!! YOU MUST NOT SKIP THOSE STEPS!!!
Alriiiiight, now you have your foundation down pat, time for the fun stuff- muscles, flesh and details!
I bet you're excited, huh?
Now, take a good, long look at that picture you're using for reference. Where are the thick parts, the thin parts? Where are the muscles, where are the bones? In this part, bub, I'm afraid I can't offer you much more advice than 'draw what you see'. An anatomy or medical book can have some handy pictures of muscles you can use if that reference pic isn't quite enough for yah. Oh and remeber: while Mudokons are very similar to Humans, they're still different
some muscles will be bigger or smaller, and in some places the bones are different too.
Alright, so you got your skeleton, and your muscles. Now let's do the hands and feet. Uh, feet first, cos they're easier
Feet are actually kinda wedge-shaped, so draw a little triangle with the top starting at the ankle. Remember, if you can't understand something I say in here, just gimmie a yell
.
Okay, you've got yer wedges. Now draw a little circle for the heel, you know here this goes. Take a look at your own feet, see the 'balls' of your feet, near the toes? Draw that as a circle too
Yay circles.
Now, looking at your foot (or the ref pic's foot) as a reference... draw the foot
See how easy it is when you have a structure to draw on? Now repeat with the other foot, if you haven't already.
Okaaaaaaay! Time for the hands. Hmm. This is when things start getting tricky. You see, hands are the single most difficult part of your Mud's body. This is because there is so much 'bone showing through the flesh'; in other words, it's because the skin is so close the the bones. ...Just a friendly warning, don't be dicouraged.
So you have your circles that you put there, yes? Okay, look at your ref pic (again
) and see how big the hand is compared to the rest of the Mud's body.
Now, carefully draw a shape (I use a fat lil' triangle, but you don't have to) to represent the palm. Now do lines for the fingers just like you did for the arms and legs. Make sure there are three joints in each finger, and two in each thumb, or it'll look wonky.
Then you... that's right, draw the flesh over it! In that ref pic I gave you, it doesn't show that hand very well, so you know what you gotta do? Look at your own hand! And, as I said before, draw what you see.
Got the hands done? Don't worry if they don't turn out to plan; as I said, they're incredibly hard, I myslef have times where I just can't get it to look right! @-@
Alright, it looks like you have the body of your Mud finished! But we can't have him walking around butt-naked, can we? It'd be a bit chilly.
So, you have to decide what clothes your Mud's going to wear. Sketch it in lightly, remembering that cloth creases where joints bend. In fact, cloth often creases a lot. Now your humble Mudokon will probably be only wearing a lioncloth, like the one in the ref pic, yes? In that case, you shouldn't have to worry about creases too much, but just in care you wanna out do yourself, here's some friendly tips:
Study real life! I can't emphasise how important this is enough!
Remember to sketch lightly at first. There's nothing worse than making a mistake and not being able to rub it out.
If all else fails, throw the pencil at he wall, stomp on an anthill and have a huge tantrum while beating the crap out of you teddy bear. Then go do something else, perhapse get a sandwich, or play some ping pong. Then come back to your picture after a break. You'll find that you can think much clearer now
Feathers, well, bah. You don't need me to tell you how to draw feathers, do you? Eh? ... well, they're just long shapes with lines in them. Look at ref pic for more info :3
...And...
...
...I... I think that's it... I have taught you all I can, young grasshopper. If you're still reading this by now (and I don't blame you if you're not XD) I would say I'de better stop teaching so as to prevent your brain from exploding with all this new data. Remember, if there's anything you didn't quite get in this tutorial, or there's something you're still having trouble with, please feel free to ask at any time
