now my display adapter's playing up

My computer needs serios help. First off it thinks that speaker hardware does not exist so i can't get sound out of it and also it is incredibly slow. But when you've had a history of computers with the same problems like i have then you learn to live with it. But the latest corruption that my computer has come up with is one rather difficult to get used to and just as difficult to fix. You see, my computer will not allow me to change the display settings to anything other than 640x480 pixels (that's 16 colours) and almost all the programs on my computer are only compatible with 800x600. Whenever i log on my computer displayes this message:

I have already checked the adapter and its driver and (aperantly) they're working fine. Ive also scaned and defragmented my c drive (dunno what good that was ganna do but it was worth a try) but that only seemed to slow my computer down some more

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!

Someone out there must know what i can do to fixed my computer Dam i can hardly see the text that im writing on this page it's pathetic!

So if anyone does know what i can do pleez tell me... please

Windows 95/98 is REALLY old now. I think it'd be best to get a new computer. And preferably one with Windows XP. How old is the PC you have now?

So what 95/98 are old? Windows 98 was the best operating system ever!!

If think your sound drivers/VGA drivers are corrupted. Re-install them

It WAS the best operating system. Now Windows XP is the best thing.

i've already tried to reinstall the driver and nothing has happend so, yes, im likly to get a windows xp computer as soon as i can be botherd to get off my chair.

Oh please, windows XP is just a fancy version of 2000. There's hardly any difference

ok, thoug this conversation has taken on a life of its own i would like to inform you that after uninstaling and reinstaling all of my display hardware my computer better again.

Windows XP features more security, better program compatability, and runs the latest games to their best. In my opinion, Windows 2000 is pretty ugly.

i just like the fact that on XP you get a newer, more modern display, and you can make it silver

other then that im not quite sure what else i no that sets 2000 and XP apart.

this way i get to agree with both of you!

2000 is ugly in your opinion though, isn't it? 2000 is still used in major companies and office buildings. If it wasn't for the game developers developing games for XP I wouldn't be using it. End of.
