Calvin and Hobbes

Does anyone else here love Calvin and Hobbes? I absolutely adore this comic. It is the height of what can be done with wit and humour in a comic strip.

This question doesn't apply to Havok as it is a known fact that he would turn all Hobbes dolls (if there were any) into finger puppets.

There is a sort of 'sequel' to that comic where Clavin does not acknowldge hobbes, and that Robot Chicken parody was dissatisfying, they got Calvins head and Hobbes height all wrong.

"Calvin, your parents don't believe. We have to kill them." Priceless.

When I first read Calvin and Hobbes, I thought it was one of the most brilliant cartoons I'd ever read. But they all kinda feel the same to me now; it really is just the same joke over and over.

I love Calvin and Hobbes. One of the best cartoons ever IMO. And one of the very few that are actually funny...

Yes.

Calvin and Hobbes raised me to be the person I am today, and I say that with almost compete honesty. I grew up on the comics, and a few months ago I went on a re-reading spree... Bill Watterson is a genius. Wit, humor, philosophy, and art have never blended so well together.

I was stating that it is not the same joke over and over again. I think you're agreeing with me but it's a little ambiguous.

Actualy... as much as I hate to say it (because I do like this comic), there is adult stuff of this comic lingering around out there but please do not look for it you will be scared for life . It's even worse then the Tony the Tiger 'How the frosties are made' picture...

Anyway, Calvin and Hobbes owns, like, bigtime. And no not just because there's a tiger there

Calvin and Hobbes has been an all-time favorite since first grade. It embodies the time when cartooning was an art, not an easy way to make a quick buck. Bill Watterson truly understood paneling and had a brilliant art talent that is, unfortunately, no longer seen in the newspaper comics.

Read it. Loved it.

Hobbes has some smartsome lines, though.

I just love Hobbes. Calvin is pretty cool himself but Hobbes's personality was just hilarious to me. How does that kid think him up?

When I was in the first grade, I came across one of the collection books, which was the one where the snowmen come alive and start forming a whole army of mutant snowmen off to terrorize Calvin. I was in love at the sight, and wished I had more. The jokes were a little adult for me at that time, but I thought they were hilraous still. Now that I look back, they are even greater.

@Venks: Bill Watterson never said Hobbes wasn't real, nor did he ever say that Hobbes was all part of Calvin's imagination. He says it doesn't really matter to him, nor should it matter. He just likes the idea that Calvin has a stuff animal/real tiger for a friend.

I always wondered how Hobbes always seem to be a little moral Calvin, if Calvin did make him up...

I never thought that Calvin 'thought him up' so much as Hobbes inflicted a powerful break into Calvins Psyche, and that in doing so, he embodied what Calvin idlozied as a "Perfect Friend" Hobbes was virtually Flawless, he gave Calvin (completely fictional) answers to equations, and various other porblems, yet was still kind and true.
I'd sell my wondeful hair for hobbes, I really would.

Oh, and anyone who didn't catch that "Bil Keane' comment should note that he is the creator of the family circus, quite possibly the Shittiest comic ever made.

Grew up on those comics. Looking back, it's really what got me interested in comics in the first place.

I still have a few of the collections lying around somewhere. I really need to go back and read them.

I am indeed agreeing with you. There is nothing in Calvin and Hobbes that suggests recycled humor, excluding the recurring themes of Spaceman Spiff, the wagon, snowmen, etc...

Oh so true. I'm sick of seeing those retarded kids everyday. However, It's not as bad as Garfield, the true low of cartooning.

Bill Watterson said that Hobbes is two sides of reality, seen differently by different people, in the tenth anniversary book that I have (among the hoardes).

I think (though among the other characters), Hobbes is really the individual most of us like the most. He's just...well, perfect. I see little wrong with him at all, he's often the one who cracks many jokes, sets them off somehow, and the animalistic part of him is also often amusing.

That comic up there isn't a proper one, you do know that, right?

How is Calvin and Hobbes the same joke over and over? No way! Obviously it remains roughly the same (complaining about school, homework, Susie, whatever) but it does change, and is kept fresh, though unfortunately it isn't written anymore.

...and ZOMG, for probably the first time ever, I actually agree with OANST about something...probably the last time, too...

I love Clavin and Hobbes!
Theres one I really love can some one tell me how to find it on the internet.

It starts off with Calvins mum walking into Calvins room and asking Calvin why he is still in bed.
Calvin replies 'I don't feel to well'
His mum puts her hand over his forid and tells Calvin that he is sick.
Calvin then says; 'I can't be sick NOW! It's still summer vacation! There's no school to stay home from! This is MY time!'

Then he screams; 'SOMEBODY OWES ME BIG FOR THIS!!'

Down the bottom of the last sqare it has a 43 and a 7/31, whatever that means.
