The Devil's Backbone -Guillermo Del Toro

Great film. Great way to do a ghost story. I felt that it achieved a balance between the war time stuggles aspect and the ghost story along with it. I was surprised to find out that neither Pan's Labyrinth or The Devil's Backbone were based on books. I did find the entire legend around Santi to be a little odd though, I mean, they treated it like something that had happened decades ago when it was all very recent more or less. Eh, probably just wanted to find some way to integrate the diffused bomb into the plot.

Just to add to what I said previously about Doctor Who - cos I've just remembered that Season 3 starts to air on Sci Fi in America on July 6th. So, any Americans out there I urrrrge you to watch! It doesn't matter if you haven't seen anything of the series so far, the format has entailed that it basically reboots itself after each season, re-introducing the main concepts, etc, so new viewers aren't lost.

I think it's quite difficult for foreign types to quite understand DW's impact here in the UK. After the soaps, this is the highest-rated show on telly (it got over 8 million viewers for the finale), makes millions in merchandise (including action figures, kids pants, three separate magazines, a card game, the list goes on...), has TWO spin-off series in production, and wins multiple awards.

Okay, I am a complete geek for this, but if you can, give it a try.

EDIT: Oh, and it was announced only yesterday that Kylie Minogue is going to star in this year's Christmas Special. How marvellous.

I have just seen Shaun of the Dead. I can only say one thing: MAGNIFICENT!

And my favorite part was....(notice some people may consider this as a spoiler. Don't read if you don't want to know anything)

Shaun: Ok now stop, I'll get physical.
Girl walks closer.
Shaun: That's it!
Shaun pushes girl.
Girl goes through pipe.
Ed starts up the camera.

That was as funny as it gets, I reckon.
"Oh, fuck, we've killed her!"
She climbs up off the brolly pole, and Ed winds up the camera!

Recently seen The Naked Gun. Real good parody film that is awesomeness defined for 1 thing alone, if nothing else: Weird Al Yankovic has a cameo.
Recently bought the first Die Hard film on DVD, watching it tonight.

Fucking awesome.

You must watch it! Heehee!

**Kinda spoiler** Not really but still...

The endings rather naff really. It has the "They've got a loved one and now it's personal!". FFS. Some bastards are trying to kill you, how much more personal can it get?

I just saw the Transformers movie.

Totally nuts insane action, and the special effects were awesome. Whenever you see them transform, you hear the 'Choosh-Choosh-Choosh' from the animated TV series hidden in all the mechanical noises. The modern dark view on them was great. I also liked the shaky-cam style of all the big action scenes. The only thing that flagged a bit was the plot.

*SPOILERS*

It was a bit weak. I mean, seriously, hiding Megatron in the Hoover dam? Lame. And the dialogue was a bit corny sometimes.

*END SPOILERS*

All in all, I give Transformers a 9 out of 10.

Wyatt Earp... too long, too much killing and too little not-killing.
Although it had trailers and everything on the stupid television like it was highlight of the year or something...

saw transformers. I liked it, I recomend to people to see it at the movies, the huge screens are great for all the visual effects.
*Spoilers*

I liked the little bad one, who hacked into the goverment accounts, the one who was on the plane. He was cute, and had attitude. I also liked at the end when that boy with the cude (forgot his name) and the cude zapped the car and the steering wheel turned into a facehugger (off Aliens) and how Megatron flicks that human away, saying 'disgusting!'

*spoilers end*

I saw the Jim Henson movie of Roald Dahl's The Witches, which seemed oddly familiar to me. It was ok, and the designs for the witches were just as I imagined when I was in 2nd grade, but the ending was dreadful and ruined the entire movie.

Transformers I did see.

*SPOILER*

Great flick, best to come out of 2007 thus far. Had great comedy, humor, and acting! Recommend it to all, even non fans. Is it just me, or did that little robot have an orgasm while it was hacking into the government's computer? Also, I love how Starscream flies off and is a jet. Loved the way Megatron died, and the fact he was Prime's brother was great.

I just returned from seeing Transformers, and it was a lot better than I had expected. It wasn't outlandishly action-y, and had a nice balance between it and humor. I'm kind of glad they're not so blocky anymore, it always bothered me for some reason (of course now they look kind of like mechwarriors). Another thing I liked about it was the fact that the actors actually looked like normal people, not glamorous celebrities.

Only one thing bugged me, though:
SPOILER WARNING
The fact that Sam and his girlfriend were making out on the hood on Bumblebee in the end in the presence of all the other Transformers. Creepy.

Either Optimus Prime or Megatron said "Brother" before Megatron died. I forget who.

I think thats brother as in military 'brother'. "You go on, brother, I wont make it.", and the like.

As for me, I've been watching far too much King of the Hill on dvd. I need to get out as much as I used to.

That may very well be the longest link I've ever seen.

I forgot that I saw Ratatouille the other day, and enjoyed it, much like most of Pixar's movies (except Cars and The Incredibles, I didn't care much for them. At all.). Remy really reminded me of my pet rats the way he moved around. The plot was cute, but awfully long for a children's movie (111 minutes), and most of the younger ones were becoming increasingly squirmy and loud.

So long, in fact, I'd never dream of clicking on it. Who's loses here, him or I? Neither and both is the answer.

I recently watched, as a part of Channel 4's Gay Season (they're actually calling it this), commemorating 40 years since the legalisation of homosexuality in the UK, a one off drama called Clapham Junction. Missed the first half hour, but it was really quite good, all about interlocking lives, different sides of gaydom. Points deducted for the underage sex which was done, like, 7 years ago in Queer as Folk, so to top it they made the guy a year younger to 14 "almost 15". Which would have maybe made the very graphic sex scenes rather disturbing if it weren't for the fact the actor playing this supposed 14 year old had clearly a face full of bristles and was really rather cute with a great figure. So it was just sexy, even with the creepo-evil green paedo-den lighting. But it was all very contrived (doesn't bother me), and quite unoriginal but it was good stuff nonetheless. I’m a sucker for a gay anything.

I think How Gay Sex Changed the World is on tomorrow, which is sure to be a must-see.

www.channel4.com/gayseason

EDIT: Just to say, I'm aware of how badly written all the above is.

I must say that I rather agree. I was reading a review of a movie a while ago that began "Bobby's father is a conservative Christian..." and just knew at that moment that Bobby was going to turn out to be gay. Sure enough, I was right.

What about all those guys who were gay before it was fashionable, eh?
