Here in Britain we have our own national holiday, it's called the 'Bank Holiday' in celebration of a great institution. Only we get six or so of them a year.

z0mg, I saw the best Cuatro de Julio show ever last night. My friend put something together that involved the big kind of fireworks mixed in with musical clips of the Lion King. Best show I've seen in a while.

Seems like a pretty good reason for a holiday to me. Much better than Australia Day, which pretty much celebrates the arrival of white people and syphilus to wipe out the Aborigines.

Tony Blair actually said a few months ago that Britain needs a national holiday similar to Australia Day. We all found that most amusing as it's generally regarded as the second-most pointless public holiday ever, after The Queen's Birthday (which occurs two months after her actual birthday, at a more convenient date).

Yes, but Independance Day marks the declaration of independance from Britain, not white settlement.

Australia would mark Federation day if that wasn't January 1st. We'd hate to lose a public holiday just because two fall on the same date.

Independance Day has become just as useless if you look at it like that. Australia Day was probably a very meaningfull holiday back then but now it doesn't make any sense. Same with America and Britain for this simple reason; America IS dependant on Britain!!!! Heck America is and always has been dependant of the rest of the world to survive, the entire Declaration is, and always has been, the most arogant and childish piece of paper ever to see the light of day.

The very idea of British people celebrating anything is ludicrous. We hate success, we hate people who are wonderful. We like gloom and unhappiness.

All you celebrate is how some guys made your country independent, while it actually isn't.

But then again, I don't see the point in celebrating victory in football games made by SOMEONE ELSE.
