Chapter 2 – Finding
~~~~
“So,” Abe said, “What do you think?”
Alf stared at his friend, his month hanging from his jaw in shock. Then, Alf gathered himself and took a sip from his tea cap.
“You want my opinion?” Alf asked.
“Yeah.” He answered, nodding his head.
“I think you’re nuts.” Alf said bluntly, taking a sip of his tea.
Abe blinked with a stunned expression in his face. It wasn’t the answer that he was expecting, but this was Alf after all. Alf said things bluntly. Very bluntly. He was in your face and realistic about life. So, it was probably a good thing to talk to him, but he could at lest put a little thought and heart into it.
“But, she was in my dream. She’s-”
“That doesn’t mean anything.” Alf butted in, “You mostly had a bad dream.”
“Alf, she was full out talking to me. She said that she was going to die in a month.”
Alf looked at him, “She told you that?”
He nodded, “We have to do something!”
Alf sighed and said, “I think you should take a break, dude.”
“What?!” Abe yelled.
He couldn’t just ‘take a break’. He hadn’t taking a break since he gotten out of Rupture Farms. He wasn’t one of those people who could just roll over and not do anything. He had to be doing something. And now, with his mom in danger, he couldn’t just stop and vacation.
Alf sighed at his out burst, “Geez, man. I’m just telling you what’s for your own good. You need to relax. If your having dreams about Sam, your in pretty bad shape.”
“It wasn’t a dream though!” he answered back, “It was something more.”
“Ha!!” Alf said with a hint of joy in he voice, “You don’t even know!”
“But, you don’t have to label it a dream ether.” Abe growled back.
Alf laughed weakly, “Ok. Ok. But, I’m still right. You need to stop working.”
He looked at him, “I’ve been working nonstop since I’ve met you.”
“I can’t stop though.” Abe said, “I’ve got too much stuff to do. I have-”
“You don’t have to do anything.” Alf said, “Even the Blue Messiah has to relax. A stressed up liberator looks bad. Look at Munch; he’s on vacation right now. You should see him. I know that he and the kids would love to see you.”
Abe thought about this. Munch was the savior of his people and he was on leave because he had to watch 150 babies Gabbits. He was there when the little guys hatched. He was like an uncle to them. But since he was always working on the FUD campaigns, he was too busy to visit.
“You know I’m right.” Alf smiled, “Come on. Just unwind for a bit. And to make you feel better, I’ll watch things from here.”
“I don’t know…”
Alf pulled him to his feet, “Just do it, man!”
He marched Abe to the door and threw him out, shutting the door behind him. Abe landed on his rear and was soon joined by his cup of tea. He was stunned again. Wow, Alf really was acting harshly about this.
He turned to the wooden barrier and sighed.
“You still there?” he heard Alf’s voice call through the door.
“Yeah, I’m still here.”
He heard Alf growl and walk away from the door. He sighed again. Seems like Alf had lost faith in him. Goodie, more to worry about. He turned to the path and put one foot out. Then from the sky, yet another teacup came and met Abe’s head. He yelped and watched to cup smash on the ground around him. He looked up to see Alf at the window on the second floor, with tea cups in hand.
“Get going!” Alf barked, sending more cups down upon him.
