I think that killing Saddam was completely pointless, since we just glorified him in his country and made him a martyr. That's why we should've just put him in soletray. He would have suffered more for his crimes, and he wouldn't have the satisfaction of knowing that his "people" are honoring him.
When it comes to the death penalty, I really don't agree with it. As Bullet Magnet said, we're basically stooping down to their level, making ourselves the murderers. Plus, for all we know, when it comes to certain cases, we might be killing an innocent man, who did not commit the crime he is being punished for. After all, the judicial system is far from perfect.
That's why I think it would just be a better idea to put these types of people away in soletary. If they did do it, they're paying for it dearly, by not being able to escape from the room, let alone this world. If they didn't do it, there's always a chance they'll be found innocent and released, rather than being killed and found to be innocent afterwards. It just seems like a much better form of punishment.
