How does Abe breath?

Has anyone noticed he dosn't have nostrils? I know this is a stupid question but its been bugging me for ages, I just want to get a pencil and stab some holes in face so he has a nose! Maybe thats why his voice sounds like he has a cold...

You don't really need a nose to breath, have you ever broath (is that a word?) breathed out of your mouth?
Even if I'm wrong, Mudokons probably have a different way of breathing to us

Maybe he has gills or maybe he doesn't use lungs to breathe. He's not from Earth so he could have a whole other way of breathing.

I doubt that. His structure is pretty similar to ours, so I'd think he'd have lungs or something similar to 'em.

Also, if he were to have gills, he wouldn't drown in MO

My guess is:

As stated before tastes the smell and breathes through his mouth.

Or as stated before, has a nose somewhere else, or in a different form.

Maybe his mouth is both a mouth and a nose combined. Meaning, that his mouth also has some sort of olfactory sensors...or summat...

Or maaaybee...It's because he doesn't even have a nose. I tried holding my nose and talking at the same time, and I sure sounded like I had a cold.

Speaking of which, yeah, I think this should be in GD.

Yeah, that could be the case too. Alot of mucus would cause someone's voice to go all weird.

If you've heard Abe's voice, you'd know he'd breathe through hiw mouth. That kind of voice, if you have Abe's kind of voice, and also, maybe if you pinch your nose.

I can't be 100% sure about this, but I think I remember hearing/reading something saying that he's kind of like a bird the way his face is made... (in fact I believe there are theories connecting birds and mudokons trying to explain why mudokons have such a strong link with birds)
So that could mean that he simply has small "nostrils" on his "beak" (and you have to admit, that part of the face does look kinda like a beak) that allow him to breathe/smell/etc. But like I said, I'm not completely sure about this, and even if that is what was said, it's not necessarily right

Um, if u guys are dealing with this little problem u should have noticed that Glukkons, Vykkers, and Sligs dont have any bodybarts to which you can easily say is a nose nor do fuzzles (although one of them sniffs in the SW intro)

Yeah, that is a good point. Perhaps Oddworld creatures do indeed smell some other way, or certain ones just don't smell at all.

Either way, it doesn't matter, since we'll probably never find out for sure

I am sure they all smell. I mean if OWI put some kind of logic into making these creatures up (which they should have, and im sure they did), than they dont dont split evolution in two saying these guys breath these dont. Think logically: most if not all OW creatures are put out against the same or very similar tipe of environments. even in a factory there is clean enough air to survive. It would not have made sense to niglect the fact that there is air. Evolution takes adventage of the environment.

If it would worth it there would be creatures on eart who dont need oxygen, but there are none such.

Never seen Abe keep his mouth open long enough for breathing, nor doing anything with his tongue.
Maybe that feathery thing on his head absorbs gases from the atmoosphere into a canal that goes down the neck to lungs. That's why he still chokes and grasps his neck in that killer gas stuff in the PS1 Oddworld games, and absorbing gases would mean he'd sense a smell at the same time.
But an actual nose like birds would make more sense...maybe hidden in those creases above his mouth we always see. They are there.
