Should I shave the neckbeard?

Why haven't beards caught on again? If bell bottoms could make a comeback, and the 70s in general, why not afros and beards?
I've got about a 2 month neckbeard going and I think I'm the only person alive who likes it. I thought that people would see the luxurious throatmane and think that I was a mature, virile man's man. Not the case. Not the case at all. I just can't grow a mustache. Half German, Half Italian, 100% Jungle in Manland and yet I can't grow a bloody mustache. Very frustrating.
I'm thinking about keeping it as long as the Twins are in the wild card hunt, about another month, as a sign of solidarity(Nearly every major starter has some facial hair). I have done this with mullets before for Hockey.

Eh, I really don't wanna. But the upside is my mom went to college for haircutting and beardshaving before becoming a teacher(double masters baby!) so I can get a quality shave for free. The thing is, one of my little piccadillios is that I enjoy getting a shampoo and a haircut, if you catch my drift. I don't want the launch sequence to initiate on the U.S.S. Statikk's torpedo midlather when its my mom. That would be quite awkward.
The other thought: My uncle is a redhead, and he has a totally badass neckbeard. So did my dad. And both my grandfathers. And most of my aunts and grandmothers(cut them some slack, they're full blood italian or German and postmenopausal ).

Beards are officially foul.

However, a friend I recently went on holiday half grew a neckbeard, it was hilarious. I laughed at it every morning. A great way to start the day.

I've never met a girl who likes a good beard, yet every guy I know wants one. Go situational irony.

Anyways, I like a good neckbeard. Keep it. Go observational irony.

Hmmm. . . Neckbeards. :P IMO they look a bit odd if you don't have any other facail hair. . . Beards are a bit strange anyway, but they look really good on some people.

Just remember though - Looks are unimportant in the end if you don't look too strange. :P If you're happy with it, keep it.

If it were up to me, I would never shave. I have to shave everyday because of work (stupid restaurant regulations). But whenever I have a week off I don't shave at all in that week.

Neck beards a weird. I've never had just a neck beard, but I have seen people with them. I just go for the full wack. After a couple of days it gets rather itchy.

Ew, beards have always been severely gross to me. Especially long ones. They're not making a comeback around here, thank god.

I just misread that as "I recently went on holiday and grew half a neckbeard" and laughed untill I realised otherwise.

Hobo: My dad had pictures taken of his high school prom and imagine my suprise to see that he was rocking the curliest afro I'd ever seen.
I asked him if he had an afro pick, and he said he tried it but a twine broke off in his hair. I believe it.
I was reading some things about beard psychology and study today, called pogology. Apparently beards weren't popular in the United States into the 20th century and only academics and cranks wore them. The World Wars were also instrumental in getting people to shave for war and stay shaved and brands like Gillette used the image of a freshly shaved soldier for advertising purposes. Beards made a comeback in the 60s to 70s with the rise of the counterculture and opposition to the Vietnam War, but fell out of favor again shortly thereafter.
On perceptions of the bearded: Positive in the 70s, studies shown that people regarded beards as showing manliness and maturity, but they became associated with dirtiness and and the fringe of society/eccentric behavior. The fringe thing is an easy American culture connection but I don't think the dirtiness thing is. My face is cleaner than it ever was as I have to soap and shampoo it. Lastly, the Midwest favors beards more than any other region in America and I love right in the heart of it. Schwing!

Men have too much hair.

Why don't they understand hair in the armpit is not cool.

Hm. I personally prefer clean-shaven men, but I suppose...I mean, don't go for the whole Leo Tolstoy beard thing, but I guess something like Lorne Lanning used to have is okay.

@Carbon: Maybe they think it's a sign of virility or something.

You know guys who think armpit hair is cool? Hmm, I seriously doubt that, even though it is cool.

I expect my first follicle-blooming very soon, looking forward to it so I can flash the chicks my armpits and they shall swoon into my arms. Stupid women.

I fully agree. Hair-covered bodies are totally replellent to me.

I think body hair is some kind of masculinity issue. "I have the chest hair, I am the most mature!" kind of thing.

Best save yourself the trouble, love, and just go gay.

Don't even bother with these hairy examples of humanity.

I can't stand body hair but the fact is that guys need to have some in one or two locations (armpit being one) otherwise they just look, rather creepily, like a little kid.
