I wasn't originally going to post in this thread but I REALLY wanted to kick my postcount over to 3000 today and not have to wait until next time I'm online

It's been a while since I was in school but I think the most fun class I had was Media studies, because we spent most of the time watching movies. How can you complain about a year 12 (final year of school) subject where you come in the first day and the teacher puts on a Bond movie? Or a subject where a third of your grade comes from a 1500 word essay comparing social values in Dawson's Creek to Welcome Back Kotter.

Now that I'm in university I'd say that my favourite classes are the computer programming ones, simply because I'm rather good at it.

Physics and Peh (To quote Earl from Cow and Chicken). Managed to do 2 days of the Bachelor study of Applied Physics, but, alas, I got placed for Medicine, which has aNumerus Fixus, meaning there's only so many spots for students, while AP has infinite (okay, I like to exaggerate (sp)) spots.

Gawd, how I wish I had stayed with AP now...

My favourite subject in highschool is Media. Like nate_dog_woof said, you get to watch movies but you also get to make movies, music clips, sound stories and etc. Plus you get to play with shiny cameras.

I've never liked PE that mich - I don't dislike it, but I'm not too good at it. It probably has something to do with the fact that I can hide behind a piece of string.
I liked art and drama, which I was somewhat good at, but I dropped them both this year so that I could have other subjects, now that there are about six different sciences you can do. I don't really like english, either: getting us to compare, analyse... don't get me wrong, I'm fine with reading, I just don't like to scrutinise the words.
I suppose my favorite sublect now is geology. Only on the other side of nowhere, will someone say that.

Yeah, I don't think English needs to be taught past year ten. Once you have reasonably literacy and can write an essay if needed they should stop. In the last two years of school, all you really learn is how to overanalyse books and how to write styles of essays that you'll never actually need (eg argumentative essays).

I can't speak for Australia, but I certainly think that English needs more focus here in America, where the majority of people can't convey their ideas in a coherent way. Discussions in English classes are also great for sparking philosophical conversations that some Americans otherwise wouldn't be involved with.

I think what really turns people off of English are assignments on books that are above the students' comprehension. Some teachers choose books like Melville's "Billy Budd" and Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" because they're short, when neither of these books need to be taught below the 12th Grade (probably Australia's year 13?). It's not that they're hard to read; I've read both. It's just that the majority of students that would be reading them do not have enough "world experience" to walk away from the book with significant meaning... this is especially true for writers like Faulkner. I've met one person under thirty that likes (and understands) Faulkner.

So, in summation, I like my opinion, but you're point is just as valid. Higher English really isn't too practical. XD

Really, I don't even believe that grammar rules are that important (mainly because I could never remember them all!). I don't give a shit what a "gerund" or a "participle" is, but dammit, I can write a paper. English is all about forming coherent opinions, in my... opinion.

I would say Biology and Physics and maths

biololgy was a skive...as I just memorised the theory involved.
Physics...none of experiment worked.

hated English...teachers despised me.

Art is first. I like to draw, and although it requires long hours of homework, I enjoy the subject. It's also an opportunity to use materials that I wouldn't normally use, such as silk and clay. There's also the satisfaction of knowing that while some people are dragging themselves to subjects that bore them, I'll be drawing.

I'm also fond of science. However, this year I have the worst science teacher in the school. She doesn't explain, give notes, or even properly read the textbook. She was convinced that vaccums have no gravity! When I asked why things fell in them if there was no gravity she sat there for five minutes and then said she'd get back to me. -_-'

I like English, and Graphic Arts. But in English, I feel sort of intimidated. Sometimes I do not know if I can write some good stories. I know what I want to write, then I get on the computer and my mind goes blank lol.

^^The writing thing is sxactly the same with me. I know what I want to write for my story(ies), but when it comes to actually typing it up, I struggle putting thoughts into words quite a lot. I guess its because I create my own little world for my stories, and when it comes to writing it, I try and show the readers as much of the world I've made as I can while telling the story, and I often fail.
I still like English lessons though. The teacher for them is awesome too.

Ah, you have the same thing as me, but my problem is with drawing. I used to be brilliant (or was lauded as such, at least), but then lost all confidence and now nothing inside my head ever ends up right on the paper. I've long since given up.

That is exacly how I feel! It's horrible. I mean, I have this really awesome story to cook up, but I get it on paper and it just isn't the way I wanted it to be. I tried typing it out one day, and I looked back on it. It was weird, because it sounded so good in my head, then I when it was typed, it looked horrible lol. Anyone have a cure for this? lol

Pretty much every author I've ever read about on that topic says that their first draft is always horrendous. The difference between an author and someone who merely wants to be one is that the former writes without caring how it is, knowing (s)he can fix it the next time round.

That said, I've never been able to put that theory to practice. I've always wanted to write but I've never really been able to transform my ideas into actual prose.

It came to a toss up between Art and graphics. I had already taken both subjects for the past two GSCE years, and the amount of coursework from them both nearly killed me. Someone persuaded me to take Graphics, and I just finally finished the fourth project in a row doing essentailly the same thing at aprogressively higher standerd. Not a day goes by when I don't wonder, what if?

For instance, I might be going into Animation instead of marine biology, although that's still an option. I think Gautam Babbar of OWI studied Marine Biology before he learnt animation and joined Oddworld...
