Idea Global Warming, or Global Dimming?

What do you believe will happen in the future to our planet? A lot of environmental companies are encouraging people to recycle and do environmental efficient things like using electrric cars and not making pollution. Most cars have a filter for the exhaust pipe (I've read so) so they don't pollute as much. Some people are scared that due to Global Warming the polar ice caps will melt causing the oceans to rise and flood cities.

Do you think there will be a serious global warming, or global dimming. If golbal dimming does occur it'll start getting cold real soon. Global dimming is the exact opposite of global warming. Clouds created from pollution reflec the Sun's heat and don't allow the heat to come through. I personaly think that there's a good chance both of these (Global warming and dimming) will happen.

Sorry, global dimming? Pfft.

I think we're all going to die because we ****ed the planet in the wrong hole. How it happens is anyones guess. Perhaps a second coming of the black plague in the form of an STI?

I agree with Leto. Global dimming isn't going to happen in this lifetime [IMHO], just due to all the scientific evidence we have, and there are scientists in Antartica who've seen pieces of ice the size of Jamaica float away due to melting.

I actually hadn't heard of Global Dimming before, and whether or not that's because of my own naïvety or because I wasn't taught about it in school, like I was taught about Global-Warming because the government doesn't see it as a threat.

We're screwed however you look at it. Many of us forumers [myself included] will obviously drown in several hundred years due to Global Warming, that is if we don't nuke each other to death or die from an astaroid first.

Global warming? The big deal? I say: More sun = YAY! Warmer weather = YAY! Shorther Winters = YAY! And the rising ocean won't be a problem either because us Dutchies are fighting water for centuries now, we've become very skilled at it. I'm sure we can beat this as well. In fact, just last week a whole bunch of American big shots were here for our expertise, after what happend in New Orleans.

But yea, this planet is screwed one way or the other. Nukes, floods, riots. We messed up this place and we will pay for it some day. Or, we will evacuate to some other planet similar to earth (how it used to be) and start messing up a planet all over again.

I'd say the planet was doomed from the day humans evolved and started populating the planet. We really suck at living on a planet without destroying it.

Global Warming sounds more possible to me. People will find out some sort of temporary or premanent solution to the up-coming problems. Or they will simply announce: "OK, fellas. We did it... Um, I hope you all know how to swim, right?"

I rather not think about it at all. It's going to happen when it's time, whatever it is, ocean-level rise or new ice age, we have to face it.

This reminds me of a Hungarian dramatic poem which was first published in 1861. It's called: The Tragedy of Man. It starts from the Creation and goes on different historical sceenes to the end of humanity. I think it's interesting, I liked it when I had to read it for Literature lesson. If someone's interested, here's a link to an English version:

Well no, even if ocean levels will rise, then still it won't mean every single city in the world will be flooded. We're talking about the rise of maybe a 100 meters or so, which if you ask me should be easily counterd. And even still, by the time it happens, solutions will present themselfs. Dams should be re-enfoced and higher, stuff like that.
It CAN be counterd, but if we treat this threat the same as we treated the planet, then yea we're pretty much done for.

Well Earth is our natural one and only habitat, messing up the planet, we'll be messing up ourselfs. We rely on it.

I saw something once that there has been work on a new types of vehicles in Japan, ones which uses water to power instead of regular fuels, which will defently help the global warming problem by reducing the amount carbon dioxide in the atmoshpere, and the enivronment aswell.
I actuality got told this story which I'm not sure whether it's true, but there was this one person who invented a water powerd car a long time ago, it was a secret project, until a car fuel company found about this invention that they decided to kill the the one who invented and and destroyed the hydroelectric car. The car fuel business company made sure that the hydro powerd concept was kept secret for no one else know, that way it was safe for the company to keep selling their fuel and make millions. I guess there are certien things we need in out daily lives, but we have to pay a huge price.

Atleast some economic problems will be solved. We'll be able to grow certien fruit, specifically bananas here in England, no need for much trade.

First off, I've heard that the hurricane that hit New Orleans, people said it was a message from God. Now, I'm not going against Christianity, but honestly.
I do believe Global Warming will kill us all one day. The ozone in the arctic is so thin, it may actually break, 'r somethin' like that from what I've heard of.
Yes, we'll all drown from the oceans, so get yer rafts ready and yer water wings.
It may be another message from God.

That was Gridlock, a novel by Ben Elton.

I do indeed remember that news item, but it doesn't solely rely on water. It just uses less regular fuels. At least it's a step foward.

the end of the world is soon enough. and there is nothing we can do about it. but in the meanwhile, we could try making something that emits O3 or known as Ozone, or we could get the band Ozone to play at a concert outside therefore creating an Ozone aura lol

We make plenty of things that emit ozone. Hang around in a photocopy room for a couple of hours and breathe in the 'electronic' smell. That's the stuff.

Unfortunately, down at ground level, Ozone counts as a pollutant. Now, you come up with a way to pump billions of litres of the stuff into the stratosphere and you'll save the planet.

Well, we're being stupid, global warming is going to happen no matter what. We're just speeding it up....ALOT. Even if we find 'free energy' we have something else to worry about...The moon getting farther away from us, after a while we'll be underwater. And if THOSE don't happen we'll probably be killed by blue zombies.

... Which would be one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. The moon is creeping away at the rate of 3.8 centimetre a year. That's the same rate your fingernails grow. Even still, in 15 billion years it should stabilise at about 640,000 kilometers, which should leave it looking about 3/4 it's present size from earth. Which is a moot point as the sun will have swallowed the earth and moon long before then anyway.

Information gleaned from the world's best resource on Armaggedon: http://www.exitmundi.nl/exitmundi.htm where they compile all the possible ways for the world to end, ranging in the likely (global warming, enegry crisis) to the unlikely (nuclear physicists split subatomic particles causing the entire universe to implode) to the religious and/or mythical (Ragnarok, the Borg).,

I heard from my science teacher that global warmoing could go two directions. Once we reach the GLOBAL WARMING!!!!!....our earth could either end up a lot greener and healtheir. Thats the good. However, if it takes a turn for the worse......then we're in trouble.

Everyone knows that global warming was just a myth invented by oil barrens and pirate ghosts.

You know, so they could scare people away from that one amusement park with the Aztec gold hidden under it. And they would have gotten away with it, too... if it weren't for you meddling kids! ARRR!

The way I see it, global warming will not be the END OF THE WORLD. After all, the global temperature has fluctuated wildly over the millenia. However, it will definately affect our way of life. Species will die out. Many humans will die from dehydration (as per the European heatwave a few years back). And sea levels will rise - which will be more of a problem now than in past global heat ages because back then there weren't any major civilisations on the coasts that would have to pack up shop.

Both ARE going to happen... But it's a very slow process one that will begin has a low lying inversion... This will empty us of light most of the time heat will get trapped in the clouds and then the extremeties will be amazing. On earth the world will be cold and dark and dead. The skies will be super heated possibly trapping us from escape and we will suffocate and or freeze or fry to death... It all depends on who and what you do...

First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time.
So we need to know the rate that souls are moving into Hell and the rate they are leaving.

I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave.
Therefore, no souls are leaving.

As for how many souls are entering Hell, lets look at the different religions that exist in the world today.
Some of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell.

Since there are more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion,
we can project that all souls go to Hell.

With birth and death rates as they are we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially.

Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.

This gives two possibilities:

1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.

2. Of course, if Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.

---

You mean like that? :P

Sorry, just had to post that...
