Is it just me... or are people listening to utter SHIT these days? Maybe I'm hit with an anomalous amount of it because I live in such a cultural wasteland... so I'd like to hope. I don't believe it though. I believe people nation-wide (I can't speak for other countries) are letting this aural diarrhea they know as popular music dribble into their heads and soak through their eardrums and infect their brains. God bless anyone who doesn't go out and buy the latest cookie-cutter gangster rap/hip-hop or effeminate jingly pop-rock album.
It is not just you. A very large fragment of todays 'popular' music is ****ing atrocious. Though my opinion may be due to the fact that I am white. *Puts on monocle* This is indeed the second coming of Blacksploitation, sucka.

Kids ARE rejecting all this commercialised shite though. They're growing their hair long and listening to bands like motorhead, gun's 'n roses, thin lizzy, metallica, etc. And it's not just a fad or trend, because I know kids who're going down that route now but have absolutely no connection to the "scene".

It's not readily apparent. The top charts are always clogged with mainstream hip hop and gangsta rap and soulless corporate "rock" bands, and almost everyone I know is addicted to it. If it's not that shit, it's old metal-y shit or country shit. My only hope is that this trend of shit music will end one day, and those faithful to the Awesome will emerge from their hiding places into the bright sunshine and resow the seeds of Good Music. Meanwhile, all this great old stuff I've been listening to will keep me in good stead.

I've recently gotten very much into Dead Kennedys. Uh... they're cool and such. I'm listening to Terminal Preppie, and it maketh me to chuckle and to sing along. I'm annoyed by the classification of such bands as Green Day as "punk". I decree that any current band thought of as "punk" must be referred to as "Ludicrous Contemporary Representation of Attempted Punk," or simply "el crap" for short.

I believe there is no bad or good music, only what you like . This is what pisses me off, you have ythe "commercial" musicians (Black Eyed Peas, boy bands), and then you have the "shadowy nonconformist" cool musicians (metal bands and such." They are not what their generilisations put them out to be (like most do), I prefer to think of them as misunderstood. And the truth is, most people who claim that these kinds of bands are what they are have seldom, or never, looked into the history or music of the group. So do not refer to it as shit, refer (or atleast think) of them as justother groups with their own style.

You genuinely bitch way too fucking much. And by the way, the Dead Kennedys are just as bad as Green Day.

Not everyone listens to music because it's "cool" to do so, you know, it may be beyond your grasp to recognise this, but some people actually LIKE that stuff. Not everyone is born with your arian tastes.

Honesty in music is important, and that's why some people dislike "mainstream", but there's no point whining about it when you yourself listen to and support mainstream bands. You're no more than a sheep declaring his independant, free thinking ways by your own insinuation. Not to suggest that you actually are a sheep, but your suggestion that mainstream is so shit that the people who follow it must be doing so blindly (if correct) would mean that you are a sheep.

If you like a song then you like a song. Sure some people will get "into" a scene by buying all the clothes, records, and posters that will help them pigeonhole themselves in the same cabal as their scum friends - but those of us who have WILLPOWER choose our friends and our culture freely.

These idiots won't fool the children of the revolution.

Ah. Plastic Surgery Disasters. Great CD. I'm partial to "Moon Over Marin," myself.

If you haven't already, you should really pick up Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables. It's their best stuff. Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death is pretty good, but definitely go for FFfRV first, if you don't have it already.

To back up Dino, listening to music because it's cool, is, well...Not cool, if you follow. I like embrasing my full music taste from Soul like Marvin Gaye, to Thrash Metal like Megadeth to Classics like Gershwin.

But modern punk music sucks beyond belief.

But i must say, i do like the ol' Ramones.

Hee, Henry Rollins (I think) from Black Flag had an interesting theory about creating peace and stopping war with Ramones music.

Mmm... Dead Kennedys. They have to be my favorite band, and I'm glad you're starting to get into them, Raisin. I remember a few months ago I gave you a super long list of songs of theirs to listen to. I listen to GMCoGMD more than the others--probably because it's the one that got me into their music. I'm such a loyalist in that way.

That guy is tre coolio, and he's coming to my city in a few weeks to give a speech of some sorts. I may just attend.

Anyway, as for punk... it's not really my kind of music. I mean there's some good stuff, like the Sex Pistols + Ramones, but the majority of punk is rather homogenous. Although, I admit, I've never listened to the Dead Kennedys. Maybe it's time I give them a whirly.

Another good rockabilly/punk band is The Bloody Hollies. They come from around my establishment and they've toured the country, Europe, and they've played at South by Southwest. Good stuff, lemme tell ya.

Meh...Sex Pistols are ok. Most of the members gained respect by their image rather than their talent. I've got a live CD by them and the bass is atrocious, Sid Vicious couldn't play bass for shit!

I like Dead Kennedys, their music has a very raw sound like it hasn't been mixed up on machines or anything like that. FFFRV is an awesome album!

As for people growing their hair and listening to frankly... shit music. We all go through that sort of phase, heck I remember the time I used to listen to the likes of Limp Bizkit :P

At the minute I'm listening to alot of Dream Theater, not too keen on some of the vocals but **** me...they can play their instruments. John Petrucci has some of the fastest fingers I've ever seen and Portnoy is quality.

Probably on his "25 Years of Bullshit" Tour. It's not really a speech; when stuff is listed as "spoken word," it usually means stand-up comedy mixed with storytelling and political rants... or at least that was the case when I saw Henry Rollins. It was a great show. Funny man.

I never liked the Sex Pistols. I guess the closest I came to them was The Exploited.

Definitely. It was more about what they stood for, the era it defines and the attitude they had towards England, which is why some people don't get it.

I have Nevemind the Bollocks and I think it's great. But some of it can only be related to if you're English, due to what they talk about.

Some new albums I downloaded illegally, err, bought
Exodus: Shovel-Headed Kill Machine. Lee Altus does a very solid job on this album, and he is a better soloist than Hunolt by far. Evn the drumming is better, and Paul Bostaph(formerly Slayer). Best tracks: Karma's Messenger, Deathamphetamine, Shov-el HEAD-ed KILL MACHINE(The best song they've done in years.) A solid 4 out of 5, and if you're big into thrash metal you'd like it.
Flotsam and Jetsam: Dreams of Death. This is a pretty nifty concept album.
It doesn't really feel like some of their mid-career albums like High or Cuatro, definately more of a Doomsday or No Place vibe to it. You can download the whole album(skip the intro track) for about 7 or 8 dollars, or find it on P2P stuff. Worth your time, even if you aren't a fan.

Exodus and Flotsam and Jetsam put out new Cds recently. I'd say that they're well worth pciking up, especially Dreams of Death.
Sorry to rain on your punk parade, everybody!

Edit: My general retardness and trouble with computers made me do a nearly duplicate post of my first content wise. Sorry folks!!!
I'd like to say that MTV put out Beavis and Butthead on DVD and left the commentary bits about the music videos on! Boy, that brings me back to 6th grade!

Any Suicidal Tendencies or Infectious Grooves fans here? I just was giving some stuff like Sarsippius' Ark (has a killer cover The Immigrant Song) and How Will I Laugh Tomorrow If I Can't Even Smile Today a spin and felt a little sheepish that I was sleeping on these guys for so long.

Sweet! I hated the fact that they took them off the video releases.
