Twins & Telepathy

This has always been a theory that has intrigued me. Tue telepathic bond that twins allegedly have. Strange reports have stated that when the two are miles away from eachother, one will know the exact time when a twin dies. So what do you think. I hope this will kil;l all of the eveilness of "boring threads."

I've heard of this. The same goes for pain and shtuffs. I think it's intriguing too and it wouldn't surprise me.

Considering humans can make themselves get stigmata (a theory that may've been discussed, but i came up with it myself, considering the people who usually do get stigmata are IMMENSELY religious, but they always get it on their palms, where it was initially thought Jesus was nailed, yet recent evidence suggests he was nailed in the wrists, as the other way would've caused him to rip and fall off. A bit like a piece of paper. Yes).

But yeh, we use 10% of our Brain or something, so, not really surprising.

Could it not just be that twins think alike?

And the twin death thing is just silly. Pfft. I knew when 9/11 happened, and I was far more than a few miles away.

Stupidest myth ever, begun by shonky "psychologists".

But yeah, it is amazing when a twin manages to predict something about the other. But you never hear about the trillions of moments every day when millions of twins fail to have any connection at all.

Simple statistics people: you've got to get it right sometimes.

Actually the 10% usage of the brain is a fact of biology, I believe, rather than a myth of psychology. I can clearly my AP biology teacher talking about it... and my psychology teacher too, I think.

I'm not really all that familiar with this subject. I've seen a few shows featuring twins who were raised apart, but had incredibly similar likes, dislikes, hobbies, etc. though. That was pretty interesting.

Anyway, I don't exactly know if I'd call these feelings/bonds/whatever telepathy, as I think we're all connected in some way, but I don't believe it's possible for someone to literally know what someone is thinking/feeling--reading someone's mind. But I do believe it's possible to sense it/get vibes from seemingly no where. Or something. Not sure how to explain what that means. You know, that "Something tells me there's something bad going to happen to so and so" feeling.

School time...

I can pick up on extreme emotions, saddness, anger and happyness. That's a sort of vibe thing, it's really weird. Though in all my horoscope reviews it says that Pisceans are naturally empathic, so, meh.

Well, I am not so sure about telepathy found in regular people, but empathy is probably found more commn;y. When I said that thing abvout sensing deathj, Iw as talking about when the other twin dies. Not another person.

Hmm, another reason that my biology teacher was terrible. I clearly remember the class talking about it with her--a kid asked that and she replied that it was true. Then she told us to imagine what we'd be capable of if we used all of it. (I'm still not sure if my psychology teacher said that, but it seems like she may have.)

Very strange.

Actually no it's not, it's a myth. If we only used 10% of our brains we would either die, or we wouldn't be able to do anything other than sustain a heartbeat, digest food, and maybe be able to emit pavlovian grunts.

We use our whole brain, each bit functioning independantly but in coordination with all the others to achieve an overall cohesive operative state. If you've ever seen a video of a brain scan as the brain is working away, you'll know what I mean when I say that the whole thing literally lights up with pulses of activity.

Biologists have been unable to detirmine or even speculate on what part of the brain would be used for telepathy. But I find it interesting that in all tests involving self proclaimed telepathics, they all lose their psychic ability in a controlled environment,

Hey, Mr. Observant, read the TWO posts above you, in which Kuba corrected me and I acknowledged that I had been misinformed. I really don't see what you get out of "proving" people wrong after they've already admitted their mistakes.

i just started taking psychology. A certain amount of the personality and such is actually inherited from the parents, so even if they learnt differently some of what they know would still be the same.

Jacob, it's always been a fact that Romans hammered nails through the wrists rather than palms, like you said the hold together better. Not to turn this into a religious debate, but stigmata is rubbish in my opinion. From a Christian point of view, God wouldn't send messages through hurting people, ever. God's messages are of hope and joy, not of pain. People who do it are trying too hard to prove the truth, or are mentally ill. Probably both.

Yeah, the twins telepathy thing is coincidence, I'm sure. Like someone else said, they don't predict everything, and any twin who thought this may have thousands of "false alarms" or bad feelings that their twin has died when they're perfectly fine and dandy.

Ooh, philisophical debate, very deep dudes. While we're here, do catatonic people think? Are they aware of what's going on?
MWAHAHAHAHA! SPLAT'S POINTLESS QUESTION WILL CONQUER YOU ALL.

(Note; the sheer strangeness of the above post can be blamed on the tiredness of the writer, who has a habit of being hyperactive when tired)

OH SNAP

(normally that would be my whole post, but I feel so very very bad about spamming that I will now spend the next 14 hours composing a term paper on the subject of twin telepathy)

actually I think splat hit the nail on the head with the whole random chance thing, people get "premonitions" and whatnot all the time, they just don't become significant or memorable until something like that actually happens. Until I see some real peer-reviewed study of the subject it will always be false in my mind.

My dad and my uncle are Identical Twins, I know a pair of Identical Twins at school and Two Identical Canadian Twins and I don't think I saw any signs of telepathy

EDIT: What do you think about faternal twins (different cells, not a split one)

Well the Psychology class that i've just started has 2 pairs of twins and i think 1 half sets of twins and a third of some triplets. I think this is an excellent stroke of luck considering the course. But i must say i don't believe in any kind of link mentally. Maybe because identical twins have the same genes they would tend to think alike anyway, no?
