I totally agree. There a lot of younger (in terms of join date) members here who are totally competent and fun.
Yes. For example, you, Nepharski, Dino and Ambi are the most noteworthy. I'm sure there are others, too.

And on the note of elections, there would have been some commotion. Also, I don't think we have as many active members to vote. :/

Ok, here are the results.
Alcar leads with 7 votes. Huzzah!

I think it's better that Alcar picks. I have faith in his judgement, plus, we can't really vote for supermod, it's something Alcar should do as he would be giving a share of complete control.

I beg to differ; I think our OT mod should be one that we all agree on. Even if we just have a show of hands and pick a mod that way, I'd rather do it like that and know that we've got a mod that we put there than have Alcar choose one and let nobody else have a say in it. This might seem harsh on Alcar but I'm sure that being the democratic person he is, he will see where I'm coming from here. It doesn't have to be a complicated voting process, like I said just a show of hands from all the active OT posters would be fine. Yes, we're still going to have a few people who disagree, but at least the majority will be in favour.

used ; the only thing that's against the rules at the moment is your signature. It's huge. Other than that I find your attitude merely questionable, but not unlawful, yet.

Dino: Ok then, if Alcar agrees to use a simple poll, where the off-topic folks such as you and I, vote for other off-topic folks to win, such as you and I.

Yeah that's the idea! It would speed it up a hell of a lot compared to standard PM voting. The only downside being that it wouldn't be as anonymous and private, but at least we would be able to see the progress.

I would prefer for Alcar to choose. It would be more democratic to have a public vote or a pm vote, but I don't think that there's enough members who would vote. Instead of giving people a week to vote, it could be decided over a few days of careful thinking.

We're due to have mod elections in a few months anyway, so maybe it would be better to just hold them now as well? Just a thought.

As for the Super-Mod, Alcar and Abe-Babe should have total control over it. Perhaps it would be a good moderator or an active responsible member? Whatever happens, happens.

Keep in mind that this election is for an OT Mod. It wouldn't matter if everyone voted. Just the people who are well involved in OT matters. (yay, I'm almost to the next rank!)

I don't really care anymore, as long as someone I like or respect gets the job and Alcar or whoever can justify the descision.

Yeah I agree, but I also think that we should have the right to decide who gets the job. Not only because it's democratic but because there are certain advantages to it. After all this is going to be someone who will potentially be closing our threads, handing out our warnings, and yelling at our morons - there's a lot of potential there for someone to come in and really mess things up by being too strict or too lax, and a lot of potential for someone to make this place run a whole lot smoother. I agree that we should invest good faith in Alcar's ability to decide things like super mods, but ultimately we the people of OT should be the ones who choose the moderator, since it is we who have to put up with him. But besides that we're the ones who are here most often - no offense to Alcar but he isn't in OT very much, he is after all quite busy, which is partly the reason that he wants another S mod, however since the OT regulars are the people who are in OT the most, and are therefore going to be most affected by a new moderator, and know the people of OT the best, then they would be the ones who are better suited to choosing the new moderator.

I'm not going to start a revolution over it, but I think that we should consider this properly rather than just going into it halfassed and picking out any old person. It doesn't take any extra effort or anything to just hold a poll vote on who should be the new moderator. The only thing we have to decide is who the nominees will be.

Look, to make sure everyone gets an equal piece of the pie, why don't we just let the current mods nominate the ones they think are good enough to be a mod and let the members elect one.

Well, at the end of the day you get to call the shots on that one, so I'll respect your decision whatever it may be, but before you've made it, I'd like to ask; what's the point in having a moderator who was picked by someone who's never here, and someone who is here so rarely that you almost never see him contributing to OT? I mean you no offense Alcar, so please don't take this the wrong way, but surely in this instance, the active members would be better suited to choosing their new mod? I mean at the end of the day, if it's someone who you're not happy with, you could just decline it and choose someone else. It's not like it's written in stone, but at the very least it would give you a good idea of who the majority of OTer's would like to see moderating that forum...

So... are you completely sure that doing away with an election for this one would do any good? Because I can't say that I'm altogether convinced.

I agree with Dino on this, but I still think that the mods, active or not, should have some say in what goes on in the management of the OT Forum

a) I'll rig them anyway

and

b) The people I have in mind are previous Moderators with the obviously previous experience, therefore I'd know they would do an okay job

"Inbred"? I quite like that term. And Alcar always rigs the elections, you just have to get *points*.

But if the people Alcar/Abe Babe have in mind are previous mods then I think we're in safe hands. As far as I can remember, all the mods who have passed have been just and fair. At least it'll be someone you can respect.

Points my ass. The users should be able to decide who our mods should be and when to appoint them.

And respect? Please, I don't care if it's the Queen of England for God's sake! As long as it's someone who will dish out the cold responses to all the laments and meaningless statements commonly found on the forums.

When are the normal elections held, anyway?

If they're pretty soon, I don't think we should worry too much about who gets the new OT Mod position anymore than we should worry about who gets the Super Mod position. If the majority of people have a problem with the new mods, there will certainly be an uproar of some sort. Even then, the normal elections sound pretty close, so he or she can be voted out.

(As if it matters what I think,) Alcar, go ahead and choose. There only seems to be one or two members who want an election.

I agree - we should wait until the mod elections before we start choosing any long term OT mods. And if the "temporary moderator" is good enough then choosing the third OT mod will simply be a matter of choosing a "spare" who'll keep things running smoothly when the other two aren't here.

Whoever Alcar/Abe Babe/other mods and whatnot pick out for positions are more than likely going to be the same people the rest of the forum would decide on, anyways. It's not as if "power" somehow dilutes one's ability to see intellect and judgement in a forum goer. I'll admit that in theory, having leaders control the selection process sounds like a recipe for disaster. But you have to remember, in a place as small and relatively closeknit as this, it hardly matters. It's not as if there's some evil and corrupt choice to begin with, so how could they even be put into office?

That's true, this is a closeknit community and the forum leader should be able to make an informed decision about who is best suited to being a mod... but what I'm saying is that concept generally works better if the forum leader is actually here. Alcar has been making an effort to be here more often, and under the circumstances you described I wouldn't hesitate to trust his judgement, but I'm just a little concerned that Alcar doesn't really spend enough time here to know what the deal is... I mean I've gone a whole day without the forum before and been TOTALLY lost when I've returned, because things have moved on so fast, and new members have arrived and such.

Alcar is here more than you think. He just hides his position. He has to come on to validate accounts and read peoples posts. He just doesn't do much actual moderation, but he certainly comes online.
He hides in the background so he can make a descision that hasn't been influenced by him arguing and suchlike in threads.
