Stick a fork in the movieplex because that is so 90s.
Check the numbers. Box office revenue is down nearly 20 percent and the take has declined for nearly 19 weeks in a row. Thats right, its been almost 5 months since one week outperformed the last underperforming weak. Oops, I meant week. Now lets look at Box Office Mojo's yearly numbers. 2005 to date. 3.8 billion to 2004's 9.6 billion. In 6 months the box has to go over 140 percent to make 9.1 billion. Thats right folks, the cinema has to gain over 150 percent in the next six months or face its first losing year in over a decade. And this is all with the average cost of a ticket being 4 percent higher than last year.

Because, all in all, most modern films are bollocks.

There have been no "Box Office Hits" so far. Lord of the Rings 3, Spiderman 2, X-men 2, The Passion of The Christ, Harry Potter 3... all the big hits were released last year.

I agree with Rich. The film industry is dying, oddly enough, because there haven't been enough decent films as of late, and the spectacular ones that come few and far between aren't marketable enough... and they come few and far between.

But hey. George Romero's coming out with YET ANOTHER zombie movie, and Steven Spielberg is remaking an old sci-fi. There's hope yet for the industry.

well the only real "Box Office Hit" so far that i can think of is Star Wars Ep.3,let's hope some good comes out of the industry for whats left of the year with some pwnage films instead of shit like "Shark Boy and Lava Girl" or "The sisterhood of the travelling pants".

Yep. Although, to be fair, I think every female I know who's read or seen The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants has enjoyed it. So it's not a complete failure.

It's hard to go to the movies these days without having to lower your expectations a little bit or a lot. It's hard to really say just that a lot of movies these days are not only nothing we havent seen before but have lost a lot of the fun and spark in once more originality as well. I think the death of Cinema will last for generations to come. Unless something can breathe life into it again.

It doesn't matter the kind of film the directors create, whether it be something new and innovative, or old and nostalgic. All depends on the execution. I believe a lot of great films are still being released these days, but far too many bad films are being incorrectly categorized as good films. Perhaps audiences have become disillusioned by the industry.

It just seems strange to me that the ticket can cost more money every year. Its so expensive to see a flick. Lets say you and your buddy/soul mate/girlfriend/boyfriend/wife/whatever wanna catch a flick. You're cheap bastards so you see the matinees. 10 dollars later you both have tickets. 5 dollars later you have the industrial sized popcorn to split. 3 later you got the soda. Halfway through you get a refill, and another. Some places charge for that. You buy a dollar candy bar, so does the other guy. Thats twenty dollars to see a damn movie and eat some food.
And don't say you don't need the food. I am not just buying the film, I'm buying the experience. Part of that experience is the food.
Now you sit down. The film wastes 15 minutes of your life with inane trivia. Another 10 with commericals. Another 15 with trailers of shitty movies you never, ever want to see. So almost an hour later the moive stars. What is that? We can rent about 20 to 40 movies for 20 dollars.
Edit: I watch about 50 rented movies a year, and rent about half of them. It is much more rewarding to do that then blow 5-10 dollars on a movie.

I indeed agree. Cinema has not completely died out yet. It's just the producers thought that modernized super hero films, ressurrected old films (like WOTW) and horror pictures were the big right now. I don't know about you, but I have only liked a few films that have come out in the last few years: a lot of the sequals, The Grudge, Finding Neverland, and Hero. Personally, I prefer Foreign Films over all the other current day genres.

The only good good film that came out this year was War of the Worlds.

Edit: Wow, I am editing seven months later. This can't be included as bringing up an old topic because I'm not really bringing it back up again, I'm just doing a George lucas and redoing my masterpeace of a post.
