How was bread invented?

I've been wondering about this for ages now. It's not an exact science, but basically: Flour + Water + Heat = Bread. But what inspired man to mix these things together? What even inspired him to grind up the fairly useless looking wheat, to make flour?

I've thought long and hard about it and I can't really think of anything... I can imagine many different possible scenarios in which bread was accidentally happened upon, but nothing concrete.

So what do you think? Do you have any theories, maybe about other foods and not just bread?

Do you honestly think that I would post a thread asking for theories about how something was invented if the world already knew?

As for the origin of bread, I have no idea.

I wonder who first thought, "I wonder if this dead piece of animal would taste better if I hold it over a fire for a while."

Didn't it start with the holy bread at the last supper or when jesus was in the desert and he made bread with no yeast?.

"Further back, in the Stone Age, people made solid cakes from
stone-crushed barley and wheat. A millstone used for grinding corn
has been found, that is thought to be 7,500 years old."
"Grown in Mesopotamia and Egypt, wheat was likely first merely chewed. Later it was discovered that it could be pulverized and made into a paste. Set over a fire, the paste hardened into a flat bread that kept for several days. It did not take much of a leap to discover leavened (raised) bread when yeast was accidentally introduced to the paste.

Weak i know, but it was the best that came up on a search of History of Bread

I think God made it.
Or lightning struck some wet flour which created bread really quickly in front of some people's eyes.

Most likely, the crop to supply wheat was in a vast supply, and very primitive bread was probably little more that flattened and crushed flour - because it fed people.

The same guy that smashed open an oyster and thought" This will be tasty after someone invents cocktail sauce"

I wonder who looked at a loaf of bread and thought, "How the hell did that get there?"

I've done that, along with numerous other things in my kitchen.

I think Voodoo Hand has just relegated this thread to the annals of uselessness by providing a reasonable explanation to the origins of bread. Who'da thought it would all be because of some random Egyptian chewing on some wheat seeds. You probably won't want to think about that sort of thing when you're eating a sandwich though...
