Oddworld timeline... where is Stranger's Wrath?

I read somewhere that OSW was in the same timeline as the previous games...

Given the old west feel of Stranger's Wrath, I assumed that the events in the game take place a while before the events in the earlier games.

Has anything been written or said that would imply otherwise?

I have heard it is the same time. Just because it's set out like the old west, it doesn't mean that is is back in time, Oddworld is ODD

It may make sense in terms of the biology of the dominant species. Super species might be able to attain a high level of technological advancement while not advancing too far over the surface of the planet, prefering to stay close to their colonies. So maybe their rate of exploration and exploitation on oddworld is slower then ours on Earth.

Alternatively western mudos could be an odd-world parrallel to the third world. Even in our time there are areas where a western sense of "order" hasn't penetrated... you might call them the frontiers of capitalism.

We were first told it is running concurrent with the Quintology; only the place is actually different.
I think they asid this so they don't need to show effects of the Quintology's end in this game, though we were recently told by Alf that it happens just after Abe and Munch.

I don't think they meant this happens after the quintology, just that its happened after MO and before ME (If and when ME comes into existance).

I don't think the structure of the super species needs to play a part in how far industrialists go. We don't know how long they glukkons have been in charge, and its reasonable to assume that there are places on the fringe of these industrialist centers that only partially benefit. The clakkerz and Wolvarks of OSW appear to be part of this trend. Western society has a habit of creating marginalized peoples and levels of connection. The area in the game is affected, but not overrun.

right after MO I think
So I believe it's safe to say it's during the quintology

I think all the areas seen in the games so far have taken place on the fringes of the Industrialist world, where Glukkon/Vykkers/Oktigi/Clakker expansion is newly approaching the natality. Who knows how far their territories stretch?

I thought this game was set in a different island to first 3 games, something like on the other side Oddworld(like Australia to the rest of the world). So we get to see a entirly different side to Oddworld (a side that seems to be in control of M.O.M)

It does not seem to matter much as it is not part of the quintology, this game seems to be aimed more attract more people to this great series of games.

SW is set on the same contenent as the Abe & Munch, which is Mudos. And oddworld is 10x bigger than planet Earth.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't Ma'Spa supposed to be located along the Mongo River somewhere? Because it seems that if that's the case, SW won't be affected by the quintology, but it will have an effect on ME. I'm probably wrong, or late to the table.

Unlikely, Stranger is very far from Abe and Munch, and usally the next quintology games takes place close to where they left of.

No Volsung is correct. Ma'Spa is the source of the Mongo river (according to the art book)

That was a report that went out in one of the Official Xbox Mags (I think it was the UK & Australian versions) but it appears to have been apocryphal. Lorne has repeated since that it is set on Mudos but far away from Abe and Munch.

PS please stop using random colours in your posts. It is quite irritating.

Oh yeah (du'h) Well this is interesting, it dosn't have it on the Mongo River Map, but We don't how long the river could go. Or mabey it's just an old idea.

Well the book only came out a few months ago so it can't be too old. I don't think they would change a detail like that in the last month or so of production anyway.

My theory was that the Mongo river was the same one that MO started at because I can't imagine the gabbits travelling across a continent to breed (you can see my justification in this thread http://www.oddworldforums.net/showthread.php?t=11103) but it was pointed out that SW occurs in Western Mudos - but I don't know if that has been confirmed recently or not.

tsioc, revealing details on the contents of the art book is considered a spoiler, so I will PM the answer to you. Anyone else who wants to know, please feel free to PM me or ask in the Spoiler Forum.

Regarding whether Ma'Spa is actually on the Mongo in cannon, remember the information on it was presented in the Inspiration chapter, so details may well have changed.
