Akira..? DUH!

Anime:
Spirited Away (The 2002 cantonese version, the english one was soooo shit.)
Cyber City Oedo 808
Princess Mononoke

Just to start a conversation, most probably unwanted, but whats with this sudden emerge of TRILLIONS of animanga fans? I mean, I've loved Anime/Manga since I was about 4, and then comes the groupies. People are just liking it for no reason. Has anyone else noticed this?

I don't like it. I think Anime and Manga is lame to be honest. Then again I hate cartoons aswell. I think people are liking it because they feel left out by others. Particularly in America, where Anime is shown on allot of channels.

Anime:
  1. Serial Experiments Lain (to this day, the single most engrossing, thought-provoking show, animated or not, that I've seen)
  2. Neon Genesis Evangelion
  3. FLCL
  4. Hellsing (horrible, I know)
  5. Cowboy Bebop
  6. Trigun
  7. And every once and a while, it's nice to watch an episode or two of "Super Milk-Chan: 100% Whole."

Manga:
  1. Hellsing
  2. FLCL

I wish I could find the Lain manga, but I haven't had any luck.

EDIT: Ah damn. I just had to add Cowboy Bebop and Trigun even though I said the three-five thing was a good idea. They're too good to leave out... CB especially.

What's the difference between them? I love Spirited Away (and all those other Movies from Ghibli studios) but only got the english version...

I somehow don't like normal mangas, more the artbook styled stuff...

Anime:
Spirited Away
Jin Roh
Neon Genesis Evangelion (series and movie)

Yeah Oddish, thats why I despise Anime. I watched DBZ too until it finished at the boo saga and then just showed re-runs of the old shite. Then I could'nt give a damn about it. When I went to Florida though some things did catch my eye that were Anime. But they have wierd Japanese names so somehow I wont remember it .

The thing is, I saw it at an animation exhibition in 2002, in cantonese. There is no difference, except for the language. Just- to hear an American state everything in the show compared to an asian language, it just aint right. Its like watching Akira in english, its just so god damn cheesey.

OH YEAH! I forgot about Lain. I just haven't watched it in a while, since only the first 3 volumes are avalible where I am. Definatley one of the best.

Serial Experiments Lain (to this day, the single most engrossing, thought-provoking show, animated or not, that I've seen)
One thing people who have never seen it before should know...

Don't watch three episodes in one day at in the same span of time, your brain will EXPLODE. I made that mistake, and learned the hard way. It's thought provoking but mind blowing. Like watching the first matrix three times in a row and having it blow your mind every time.

I LOVED Jin Roh, Jin Roh is my favorite anime of all time.

I love Spirited Away and Akira, I also loved Blood: The Last Vampire. The whole Patlabor series was actually good, and brought me something new in the Mecha line, beacause... well mechs kick ass. Also, Love Hina is good on a day when you have nothing better to do. Cowboy Bebop was badass, Trigun in my opinion is THE most anoying thing I've ever seen, mainly because every ****ing 12 year old with a keyboard and an internet connection is roleplaying him on Yahoo!. And there doing it in the most retarded ways.

FLCL confused me, like there was some backstory movie that I never saw. But I still loved it. Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex was very good, Ghost in the Shell: Innocence was the shit,k if you like Ghost in the Shell, or even The Matrix, go see it.

And its getting slaughtered on Yahoo! RP. They make vampire, gothic, neko, pyrokeneticish, and about 50 other varitions of every single character in the history of anime. I HATE IT. THEY KILLED IT! ITS DEAD! OH GOD! WHY!

The only cool things about Anime are:

1) the randomly colored/styled hair, and
2) the voices. Sometimes they make me laugh.

Anime may be dead over at your place, but it is well and truly kicking over here in Australia(it takes ages for stuff to come from US to over here, still waiting for Pal Stranger).

As with Sprite Away english ver.(Or any other anime in english), just watch the Japanese track if it bugs you so much.

As with manga, I only just catching up on all these, as most of them have been out for ages over in Japan (most over 10 years old), only now been able to read them(in english).

Don't forget that animes have good action/fight scenes and that they are still alot better then watching most of the Disney suger coated stuff.

We all love Oddworld here, so thats still cool.

I dislike anime/manga. There's thousands of them now, there's nothing even special about it now.

Although I have to admit I am going to hire out DBZ History of Trunks soon, because it's got Dream Theater songs in it. But other than that, I vow never to watch another one.

Hmmh... Seems that I had more luck with the german audio track on the DVD... They found really great speakers for this anime, every voice fits perfectly to the char. But this is just my opinion without having heard the cantonese version.
I'm really looking forward to "Howl's moving castle", the next anime from Ghibli studios

At least here in Germany anime is not dead, it just started to get very popular.

SO you may hate anime(whats wrong with Studio Ghibli and the soon to release Ghost in the Shell 2 ??), what about manga peoples ??

I found that alot of manga is alot different/better to the anime version (*cough*Dragon Ball/Z*cough*).
With manga you can also read them on the bus/train/car where ever and you can do it at your own pace too.

Manga seems to have only in recent years grown heaps big,it brings competition to the western comics.

AWWW, I am in NZ (close to your location) and I think Anime/manga is dead. Like, TRUE anime/manga. Now, since around the Pokemon generation, it has become so mass produced. Take afterschool cartoons- Yugioh, Duel Masters, Chipolle something something, frickin' Beyblades, Digimon and some other crap. Since one Anime became popular, they world has been obsessed with Anime (Pokemon started the craze, I say.). Ive been a fan for quite a while, and feel quite jipped(sp?). Its like, when your favourite song from your favourite band is made into a music video, then everyone knows about it. Its like, "Ugh. Why do I even bother?". Like.

'Hmmh... Seems that I had more luck with the german audio track on the DVD... They found really great speakers for this anime, every voice fits perfectly to the char. But this is just my opinion without having heard the cantonese version.'

Hmm, I should investigate into this matter... Cantonese has been the best as of yet. In the Japanese, Haku sounds too masculant. Same with every other language. It's not bad, but adds more mystery. Just, when I first viewed the movie, I assumed he was female. Weird, I know. He just seemed and sounded very asexual. Well, until the whole dragon bit, I was under the assumption that Haku was female. *Embaressed :P*

Neon Genesis Evangelion is the only 'known' Anime that I've really watched. There were a few others, but they weren't as engrossing as NGE.

I can kind of see what you mean Super Munch.
Don't let the kids anime market destory your vision of anime. Just pretend that these animes are 1/2 anime, more as western animation ideololgy (animations are for kids). Besides the good animes are yet to be well known, how many people do you think acually heard of the 1/2 of the animes in the
lists??

But the sad truth is that it was thanks to these titles that help bring the anime to the western world, it really sped up the rate of anime being ported to the western market.Look at all the titles that we can get now compare to the years before Pokemon...

Is there no anime that you really wanted to watch and its finally out in western market (no more fan dubs for me ) for all those that "say" anime is dead.

I'm really happy that they finally releasing the Studio Ghibli stuff.

I'm not a fan of anime because in my opinion the manga rtwork is generally better and more beautiful. So manga...

Chobits
Fushigi Yuugi
Girl got game
Kare Kano
Marmalde boy
Imadoki
Fruits basket
Ranma 1/2
Blade of the immortal

However Love Hina sucks and so does Priest...

Ok, don't quite understand what you're saying, but no problem. You could just import them through Madman magazine, still, I think.

It seems manga is more popular here then anime...

But what about the anime that has no manga version, its the best (also creative) animation you can see without having to watch something that is aim more at kids.
Dragon Ball manga totally kills the anime.

Well with anime now over here in Australia there is a lot more shops that stock them, there are alot to choose from too (not even including the kids animes), so you don't need to hunt down a anime store or buy online.(a good side to the Pokmon anime)

What I meant with the anime fan dubs is that before anime were heaps big in the west, it would take around 2-5 years for animes to come out.SO you would buy the fan made version. Now that so many animes are released here(old and new), is there not any anime you have always wanted, but is now finally offcially avalible here.

Oh my God! How could I forget! I've also watched quite a bit of: Sailor Moon and Ranma 1/2. I've watched a tiny bit of Macross, as well as Dragonball Z. But from what I see on the internet, most people claim Dragonball Z shouldn't be classed as Anime for some reason.
