How 'bout those Grubbz?

I want ot know if anyone dislikes the Grubbz. To me they are probably the coolest, funniest species ever. They have funny voices, and they always end their sentences with 'dude' and 'man'. I love that.

However, I can understand if people hate them. They're voices can get kind of grating (although I like them), and from what I've heard some people think they look like wangs.

What's your stance?

I love Grubbs. Especially Freyda Evryting *or however you spell it lol*. I could notice a slight difference in her voice from all the others, but not much. I like Grubbs better than Mudokons *runs and hides from radical Mudokon fans*

The fact that the grubs are... um... suggestively shaped is alluded to in the game.

*Slight spoiler*

The locals call them "pecker-heads" repeatedly.

I find it so funny that people like them so much when they were totally reviled after the X-Factor documentart.

Clakkerz call anyone who's being a jerk a Pecker-head.... haven't you ever riled them up.... repeatedly....

Wolvarks are the only one who I've heards call Grubbs a pecker-head. Must be popular in that area of Oddworld, to call someone a pecker-head.

I loved the Grubbs they were hilarious, had cool voices, looked awesome and had just the right mix of deep mysticism and irreverant humour. Possibly my favourite characters in the game.

I like the Grubbs. Sorta like the hippies of Oddworld with the Native ways and "dude" and "man" lingo.

I'll still be a Paramite and Slig man, though.

Man, I laughed out loud after just about everything they said! All this time before SW came out, I had thought the Grubbs would be solemn, care-free creatures bent on peace and nature and whatnot, with relatively deep voices but it turns out they're just high-pitched hippies that look like genitals! The first time I heard a Grubb say "dude" I was besides myself with laughter. I love them and they are a perfect addition to the Oddworld universe.

agreed. I never expected a Grubb to sound the way they sound. It's hard to understand what they're saying, tho....

Yeah, I wish there was a subtitles option... Oh well. They were still really funny and probably the only creatures in Oddworld that have ever made me laugh out loud (instead of chuckle mildly).

Oh, and tsioc, what idol are you referring to?

I wasn't talking about the Clakkerz. When the wolvarks refered to the grubs as far as I recall they only ever used "peckerhead". Like it was racist slang for that species.

Has anyone a voice sample of the Grubbs? I love the grubs, they are just so- patheticly amusing. Aren't they very small?

Arf arf, pecker-head. Arf, arf arf.

They are quite small. Cool guys, though.
I wonder what they look like fighting. It was hard to imagine Mudokens fighting (and still kind of is, even with MO), I'm curious as to what the Grubbs would look like.

The idol I was referring to...

after you finish the Eugene Ius mission, on your way back to town, you will pass through a grubb village, and when they see you they will panic, hide, and you'll hear them talk about the idol... I didnt notice my first time through, but the second time, it was obvious from what they were saying that it was a hint. You gots to find a rope to get on a roof, and you can probably figure it out from there.

well, in the game they don't really.... fight...

there are some fight sequences with them, but it either involves catapults that you cannot see, or the Grubb just runs through an enemy and they die....

Yeah, I know that's what I mean. Them fighting wasn't in the game, but I want to see it. It's obvious they have melee soldiers because some of the guys have staff/spears and are wearing armor. We know they shoot arrows, but there weren't any archers either. I just think it's cool to see normally peaceful or cowardly creature in combat. Like the mudokens.

Grubbs are awesome. My favorite characters in the game. I spent a great deal in their village listening in on their conversations and chatting away.

I'm glad to see others liked the grubbs. I thought everyone would hate their voices and think they're way too silly for Oddworld. At first I did not like how they sounded, because I had expected something completely different. Once I saw just how hilarious they were things changed. I wonder why the fin on the top of their heads was removed... maybe OWI liked that one joke too much, you know which one.

I love the Grubbs, they sound like little Braks! Their voices are much different than I imagined them to be. I thought they would have a quiet, and shy voice, but instead they sound like they're shouting all the time!

I'm sure I will love the character of the Grubbs. I still despise their design, though. Sure, I've grown used to it, and I know OWI put thought into their appearance, but they're still a pretty poor visual design in my opinion. Gee, they're like salamanders, except they're walking on their back legs. Neat. Almost as inventive as fat chickens.

Like I say, I'm sure I will love their character and culture.

Well, originally they were called the Salamanders, so I think they made the guys with that in mind.

No, Salamanders is just what we called them before we knew they were called Grubbs. Oddworld species are usually given their name after they are designed, if the “OddFellows” presentation is still accurate.
