Old Threads

I have no experience with modding a forum so I don't know if this is even possible but can you set it so that when threads get older than, say, two months they automatically close? With every wave of new members we seem to see old threads coming back from the dead.

That's not a bad idea.

Although, there are certain threads that aren't annoying when they are resurrected. For instance, I'd love to see What do you sound like? V1 come back.

*hint hint*

Bad idea. Some threads like the Halo thread will probably never die. Perhaps if a post has not been made in 2 months?

Thats what I meant Cyber-Slig.

Oddguy, if people really wanted to rejuvenate an old topic it would probably be best to start a new thread. Or if they really wanted the old one perhaps they could humbly request a mod to de-close it.

I think this may have been mention another time when old threads were being brought back up a lot, but I can't remember what the answer was.

It would be possible, but like already mentioned, there would be some threads which might need to be kept open for longer than two months. This list of threads may become rather large, and hard to keep up with, as implementing this feature would require us to hack the vBulletin files (which is fine, but it can present problems).

I guess it is just like the no double posters hack. In some instances, people needed to double post, but it would not allow them to. I guess that is why we never decided to re-implement it back into the forums when we switched to vBulletin 3.

I suppose if people really want it, I could easily look into it.

No, I didn't mean that they should only be kept open for two months. Rather, like Cyber-Slig said, just if there have been no new posts in two months.

Oh, I understand, but some threads may need to be repliable after a two month no post session. Such as the thread in this forum, 'Progress Report'. I rarely post in it, and it would go past the two month limit. That's all I was saying.

Ah, the inevitable catch-22 of large forums.

Whenever a newbie brings up an old thread, even if it's something that hasn't been discussed in a while, it's "Don't bring back old threads, you stupid n00b!" but when they create a new thread that has been discussed within six months, it's "GOD!!! Use the search button, moron!" Always.

Anyway, the point to all this rambling is that I think we should keep things the way they are. I mean, it's not that hard to close threads. If it bothers you, just don't respond. We have plenty of mods to take care of it.
