Has anyone read "The Prince" by Machiavelli? My God, that's a great read.

I think it's fair to say that most people on here are liberal(ish). You owe it to yourself to read it. You might be surprised what you agree with...

How to obtain and preserve power.

Hitler liked it, and so Machiavelli is often villainized because of this... by people who probably haven't even read any of his stuff.

Read the Prince and it made Machiavelli look like a sneaky, underhanded little bastard. Most of what he wrote is practical advice for a tyrant/dictator to get and keep power. It's pretty astute and a slim book so because its interesting and did impact the world it deserves a read.

I read all sorts. I always have to have a book on the go because of school. At the moment I'm reading Lord of the Flies by William Golding.

As for my favourite book/series. Well I like a lot but I liked this 15 part thing called Wicca. I forgot who wrote it though

The Prince . . . waitaminute . . . Daria read that too. I shall check it out.

I've been thinking about reading Lord of the Flies for a while. I probably won't have a chance to read it anytime soon but someday I'm going to.

The River Why was a book that surprised me. Considering that it seems to be chiefly about fishing and God, it's amazing I bothered to read it at all. But it's definitely worth a look. It's a sort of coming-of-age type of novel about a guy . . . who fishes. I mean there's more plot to it than that, like he finds a dead body in this river and it kinda throws him out of whack and some stuff happens because of it, but basically it's a series of interesting small episodes full of bizarre characters. I'm pretty sure most of it is based on the author's real life, so I guess it's sort of like a fictionalized autobiography. Believe me, it's better than my description might indicate.

I haven't read at all in days. I've so many books to read that I don't feel like reading any of them. I hate it when this happens.
