Irrational Fears

Everyone has one irrational fear. It could even be a phobia. I'm not talking about well known ones like claustraphobia or agoraphobia. Also not rational fears like snakes or spiders. Just weird things to be afraid of.

My theory is that most are hang-overs from childhood, like I hate having the curtains in my bedroom fully closed because I like some light to see that there are no axe-murderers sneaking up on me in bed.

My other one is that sometimes when I sit on the toilet, I get paranoid that there is something in the bowl that is going to attack me, like a snake or something. This could come from either the outback legend of redbacks under the toilet seat or that episode of the X-Files with the stretchy, liver-eating bloke.

So come one everyone: share and gain some catharsis

What? You think an 80-foot long shark can wriggle up the drain pipe?

Perfect example of what I'm looking for in this thread.

I have this thing where if someone puts their hand on the back of my neck, I literally go crazy because I think they're going to choke me. Luke has experienced this... We were walking down the hall and he placed his hand there and I went all crazy trying somehow get away by running backwards. (See? Crazy.) I think I ended up falling to the floor by my second step back. Fun.

Some other random childhood things: I had this fear of the shower starting to pour blood or acid or something. I also froze up in those McDonald play thing tunnels a lot, thinking it would collapse. Oh, and there was this chair in a cluttered room at the end of my grandmother's hall that looked like a monster when the lights were off in it at night time. Someone always had to escort me to the bathroom at night so it would devour me.

Sorry, one more thing (I'm such a messed up kid) I always get the feeling someone is following up stair cases, especially at my grandparents... such a creepy place.

I'll have these certain instances where I prepare myself for someone to jump out from behind the shadows and attack me.

Also...bugs in the shower. I'm not affraid of bugs in the outside world, but the shower is another story. I think it's because I'm naked and I feel vulnerable. The other day a spider got in the shower and I freaked out. So, I pointed the shower head at it so it'd wash down the drain. Darn! It was too big to wash down the drain. So, I turned the shower head on full power and ripped the spider to shreds and let that wash down the drain. Ahhh...safe.

Weird fears? I can't think of any.

But I am completely petrified of the dark. Like Nate_dog_woof, it is something that I have had passed on from my childhood. Specifically, it is only when I'm alone in the dark. My brain likes to go nuts, and have me become paranoid that there is someone, or something hiding anywhere I can't illuminate.

My actual fear has got better, a lot better in fact. I don't feel the need to have my do open anymore (my thinking was that if it was open, I could see an intruder), and I don't need to always sleep with my dooner completely covering me (I believed for whatever reasons that I was inifinitely safe under my dooner, and I'd literally sweat to death in Summer, when I wouldn't part with it).

And I guess this all started when I mistook the dripping of the taps in my old house, and creakings to be intruders. I would hide under my dooner, and hope that nothing would happen. Of course, nothing ever did happen. But, this was my childhood, and its a very delicate time for the mind.

I'm afraid of spiders. I don't mind them from a distance or if they aren't in my room. But if I see one in my room, Daddy long legs are okay, but larger spiders. I always get my dad to remove it, because I have a fear that it will fall on my bed when I'm asleep or something. The scary thing is, one did fall on my dad a couple of weeks back ... so now it's worse! And sometimes I check the toilet to make sure there are none there, as when I was a kid, there was a huntsman on the toilet seat.

I hate millipedes with a passion. I can't stand them. Once there was one crawling on one of my Sephiroth pictures on my wall ... and I'm like ... egggh... get it away. Not cause it was on Seph, but I thought it was going to fall into my bed [similar thing to the spiders I guess].

Eggh, and slugs. If I have to feed our cats, sometimes they are out there on the bowls and that. I can't stand them and quickly spoon the catfood into the bowl so I can get away from it.

Guess I hate creepy crawlies.

Also, if I've been playing a game like Silent Hill and I go out into the darkened hallway, I always find that I rush to turn a light on. I know nothing is there and it's only a game, but because it messed with my mind, my mind tells me I want to see the light again.

Generally I'm not afraid of the dark, although I prefer to sleep with my light on [for other reasons], I can sleep with it off without a problem. Only one time I was staying with my ex-BF and was sleeping in his sister's room. For some reason I was totally terrified of turning the light off. And there was no lamp in the room so I had to leave the main light on. I was really just so scared. And I've stayed in heaps of strange places [hotels and that] due to all the travelling I have done. But this room ... something just freaked me out. I don't know what ... I was just terrified. Only one other place gave me that feeling, which was an eerie town we stayed at on the OddTour, I didn't want to turn the light off there either.

Okay... I'm just going to go right ahead and say it:
I'm afraid of moths.
That's right! Moths!
Okay, not the small ones, but the big ones freak me out majorly. The way they just fly randomly, like they have no control over themselves, and that they always end up flying right in your face.

God... Where to start...

I have a fear of killing things. Not in a religious way, but if I kill anything I get really panicky and I juat worry. Once, a few weeks ago, I killed a spider in the shower cos it drowned and i didn't notice it. And I didn't sleep cos I thought something was gonna "get me".

When people put there arms up suddenly around me I flinch. Not a little one, I literally lurch towards the ground. Scared of them hitting me. ^_^;;

I know this is usual. But after watching a movie, or if i have to walk through my house at night I'm terrifyed. I hate it, cos it's dark and everywhere's quiet. And even if i turn on a light it freaks me out more.

Oh. And Fish.

I fear of moths too, and buzzing bugs, I just hate that loud buzzing sound. But it dosn't bothers me when I'm outside, only inside. Moths just make me feel ill.

You know, some people have big fears of something becuase it had an effect on them in the're past lifes. e.g someone might have a fear of fire, in the're past life they could of died of burning.

I've got this weird fear for headphones. It's alright when it's music and stuff, but I simply can't wear them when there's nothing playing. When I was a kid, I watched a scene from a weird prison movie where they punished some guy with heaphones and lots of electricity. That scene scarred me for life (ha, felt good to write that). And for some reason, people can't touch my neck. All they have to do is brush against it and I curl up like a little ball.
And, of course, spiders.

When I go to the bathroom at night I sometimes think that something will come out of the ceiling and decapitate me. I also just watched John Carpenter's The Thing, so now I can't use the toilet in the dark.

I have an extreme phobia of sudden movement around me. Probably because I have no muscle to protect my body. If somebody nudges me in the side, I piss blood. And because I get hurt easily, people pick on me more. So actually, this fear is completely justified.

OANST, that better have been a joke and not an actual insult of Jacob's sig. His sig is friggin' awesome.

I feel a need to keep my ears covered at night. This is also justified, though. You try sleeping peacefully when you can hear EVERY SINGLE BUG IN THE FREAKING HOUSE CRAWLING AROUND IN THE WALLS AND BUZZING AROUND LIGHTBULBS AND CREEPING ONTO THE CEILING SO THEY CAN FALL ON YOUR FACE! Yeah, my house is a haven for insects, and I have an intense hatred/fear of them. And those bastards are loud as hell at night. And I've woken up many times to find a box elder beetle on my face.

And one time. . . I had a dream that I walked onto my front porch, but somehow gravity was unusually strong, and I was really off balance, and I fell into this flower bed next to the porch, and there was a giant spider web there, and as I was stuck there ants started CRAWLING ALL OVER MY BODY AND CHEWING MY FLESH and then I woke up and. . . you know how sometimes you wake up and your skin is a little tingly from rubbing against the sheets all night? Well I swear to gawrd it felt like thousands of little legs all over me. *shudder* One of the worst nightmares I've ever had.

I'm also constantly afraid that my pants are just going to suddenly fall down around my ankles.

I'm slightly afriad of going into the woods next to my house at night (which I have to every time I go over to my friend's place 5 or 6 times a week), even though the wildlife in this area is completely harmless. But then that's why I carry a massive, 1,000,000 candel-powered torch/flashlight with me when going in there, and I hate going in there without it or with a smaller torch. Maybe it's the shapes that are un-identifyable in the dark, the strange sounds that are heard sometimes, the fact that it's very easy to get lost or trip over if you can't see where you're going, and the fact that sometimes criminals like to hide in them (even if crime is low around here).
Okay, so most of you town people may think that being scared of the woods at night is justified, but since nothing in the woods in these parts can harm me, then I don't think it is.

My hatred? And how is stating an opinion that cannot be proved either way [though has more fact than fiction in it] be concieved as hatred? I haven't said anything hateful. America is seething with Religion. And it is also oozing with sin.

It's your completely negative attitude about everything that irritates me. I'm an American. I am not religious. I do not like Bush (but I also wouldn't vote for Kerry). And it's not like you just stated an opinion in a conversation. It's on every post you make. If you had said that in a post about something referring to that topic I would have agreed with you. Yes. There is a lot of hypocrisy in America. But that's everywhere. And yes there are a lot of Americans who unfortunately think that their faith actually means something when it comes to policy. BUT YOU JUST LIKE TO TALK SH*T! And it's tiresome.
