Abe's Pet Elum

I was replying to the thread 'Elums, whats thair story' and just realised, If abe was born in Rupture Farms, and has lived there all of his life until he escaped, then how does he have a native pet Elum???

Mabey Bigface told him it will get a pet, or one of the muds told him he will have a pet. Or mabey Elumus is a pet of a Muds.

It isn't a pet as such. My guess is that he (like us) had never seen an elum before paramonia. Just like we had to work out how to control the stubborn beast (relying on story-stones) he had to also.

But that leads on to an interesting question; are elums domesticated and trained to respond to the elum-gong or are they wild creatures who have developed a relationship with the muds?

I think so to... Elum is not a pet. I think they have a good relation with muds and are fidel to them, like dogs can be to man, simply they live in armony in the nature, and they know when muds need them when the gong goes.

Perhaps Abe wrongly adopted the creature as a pet after he realised he could command him?

or it might be a sacred thing where an elum just obeys whoever rings those bells that abe had to ring to get elum up and about.

Oddworld calls him a pet becuase we see Abe with elum, i mean there not a marryed couple. Call then pets. Abe looks after him too. (except when Abe has to leave elum. On parimonia i tell Elum to follow me,but then i run to bird portal & escape. While elum runs straight in the mines. poor old elum)

you run faster then all your ennemies, plus I think Stranger is too big to ride on an Elum. he is himself a very good running creature.

Congrats Xav . But on-topic I think so too . Abe is tiny . Stranger is bigger than a vykker or intern . Possess a vykker or intern and compare it's size to Abe . It's a titan compared to Abe . so an elum is much too small . And btw apparently I think youre grammer is better but use capitals and youre posts and more clear to read...

In Paramonia, you had to whistle to get past some mudokons, so wouldn't it make sense that the muds living in Paramonia trained the Elums? Aww yeah.

And in this picture, it looks like Mudokons ride Elums regularly.
Looks as if they could be used for hunting, war, or both.

Good job on the 10,000 posts, Xav. What a historical moment it must be for you.

stranger is:
1° way too big to ride an elum
2° as fast as an elum, if not faster, so what's the point?

Stranger is a very lazey guy, thats why.

Quite simpley, one of the reasons is the Muds use Elums for tranporting one place to another.

Judging from Max's picture, it appears that Mudokons regularly ride elums (is the plural elum or elums?). I think that the Mudokons that you whistle to for passage trained elum in preperation for assissting the chosen one in his quest. Just a guess, but I can't think of anything better. Elums, though not neccesary the elum Abe uses will probably be in the Habitales(if OWI ever make them) as they will focus on the day to day lives of the inhabitants.

Congratulations Xavier! 10,000! Yay!
