Oddworld Abe Babe's E3 Reports

I'm not sure how many of you visit Oddworld-Web, but I found no reference to my E3 reports here anywhere that I have had up for a few days now, so it looks like I'm going to have to grab you all by the scruff of the neck to read them!!!

I probably have a really different taste in games to all of you guys, but check them out if you want to. It doesn't matter if you don't.

Head to www.oddworld.au.com and they're linked at the top of the news page.

Abe Babe...

We were talking in My prediction of when Stranger or OW4 will be released! and were wondering when we'd hear from you. It then clicked in my mind to check OWW!

Nobody visits fansites these days. Fansites are old, y2k stuff. We're thankfully down to semi-official web resources and clansites now, something I am thankful of.

I really can't stand those boring fansite blog combos where you get these silly girly "schizo freaky gal" types telling you all about their cat and the occasional news parroted off of the official website - I mean, who on earth is going to bother to go to a website to read news by word of mouth taken from an official site, when for just a few different keystrokes they can go see the news for themselves? Pointless...

Ummm... Except everyone visits Oddworld-Web right? Cos everyone loves Abe Babe don't they Death?

*reads Farzad interview*

so Farzad, Chris Ulm, Paul O’Connor and some guy called Emmanuel Valdez (did he use to work at OWI also?) started up their own company. I had wondered why they quit OWI.

Well, being the news-gathering dude at OWW, I put all the Oddworld news I can find into an easy to navigate place.

Yeah, but when OW.com is updated, I don't go to fansites to link myself there...I just go straight to OW.com.

Ah yes. Sammy Studios and DarkWatch. I've been keeping an eye on the game for a while, just to see what the guys from Oddworld Inhabitants were doing.

I'm impressed by their work. And I giggle at the fact that I've seen Farzad's signature copyrighting and dating system once again. Been quite a long time since he's had it on an image.

You have to either be in the gaming industry, a member of the press(Abe Babe has been running a website for years), or be a 'make a wish' kid. Oh yeah, and E3 selects about 100 regular kids from across the country to participate in E3. I know I heard that somewhere.

I had a quick chuckle at what Nate said about giggling at trees.

I much prefer to giggle at the more subtle, but only mildly amusing Simpson jokes...

Then I laugh out loud at episodes like the one where Homer got an Auto-dialler. Oh MAN that was funny. Especially the bit when Ned kept getting called. LMAO.

So is it just (!) because she runs a website? I got the impression that she worked in the industry.

Well, you can't just have an angelfire free site and go on over to E3. I think you have to be in the website business for a while before you're able to get in. I don't know all the details.

Anyone have some juicy info on Resident Evil 4 or Silent Hill 4? They look absolutely delicious.

G4/TechTV had a lot of coverage on Resident Evil 4. It's got talking zombies with dexterity, agility, and exploding heads! No more boring, drudging zombies! These things dodge bullets. I now officially want a GCN.

I also just saw the trailer for Silent Hill 4: The Room. Looks delightfully macabre and disturbing as always! I love playing Silent Hill games... it's like being in an art-house movie. You spend roughly half the game in a single room. Sounds boring, but I'm sure the developers have found some way to pull it off.

Best of all! Silent Hill 4 is coming to the Xbox! Hurray! It seems like we get every other Silent Hill game!

EDIT: Oh yeah. Unreal Championship 2 looks thooper. X-Play named it Best Online Game of E3. Do not defy the X-Play.

Seeing as I didn't get a chance to respond to this earlier mainly as I haven't been posting, so I may as well dig it up again. Shame that Death goes and chooses to say something negative yet again. I know he's not here now, but people do visit fansites ... almost 20,000 unique hits in ONE DAY on Advent Children.net have to tell you something. Of course OWW doesn't do that, because OW isn't as popular as FFVII:AC is. I think fan sites are still visited for such games that don't have up to date official sites. With OW we are lucky that OWI maintain such a good site. But with S-E, they only update their Japanese sites, and even then they are way behind. A fan site is a good way to get all of the news on one game in one place, instead of having to hunt through countless general gaming sites to find it. Plus, you mention Clan sites, well such doesn't exist for OW, as there is no multiplayer gaming for OW. But I do agree w/ you on the whole Blog thing ... I always wondered that myself.

@ Sea Rex ... nah, the Room thing is like really cool. Cause in the levels I played, you actually have to go "back" to the room to find clues such as notes and keys and that, otherwise you can't progress any further through the level. From what I got from the whole thing, it's like the apartment itself has a precence there that is able to leave these clues and that as things are changing there. You can also peek into the apartment next door, but I didn't work out what that is for ... but you see different things at different times during the game I guess. I would like to see how that ties into the whole game/storyline, but it's hard to tell when you only have a couple of levels to go from. Plus I swear the demo version was set at the highest difficulty, as I'm usually not good at playing the hardest difficulty, and I kept dying too soon. So it kind of meant I didn't get to play as much of the levels as I would have liked to. Some of those monsters are tough bastards!!!

Abe Babe...

I have a few connections/close friends ... that's really all I can say. Although I am hoping to find work in the gaming industry soon after my current contract expires, as E3 has inspired me to do such.

I currently work as a freelance web designer/have my own business. Actually, I enjoy the work and I have a lot of freedom with hours, etc ... but the pain in having your own business is that you have to "find" work and you have to chase up non-paying clients to get your money. Also it's a right pain in the ass come tax time, as you don't get tax taken out of what you are paid, which means you have to pay the tax department the tax all at one time. When you are employed normally, then it's taken out with your wages, so you don't miss it. Another point that nags me, is the lack of motivation I have to do things on my own. I'd much rather be working on Oddworld-Web or Advent Children.net than a client's site ... and I don't even get paid for my fan sites, but it's because I'm working on something I love/am interested in.

On top of that, I've kind of been stuck in the finance industry, which I hate, as everyone only cares about money, etc.

I'd really like to try to find work with a gaming company or gaming media working on their website, but I'll really have to see what happens. I might even have to go back to school to get myself up to date on some things like Flash and stuff like that, or maybe get into a CG/animation course and learn that side of things. But I've been told there are around 15 gaming companies in Australia, and there are opportunities for females in the industry, so I'm hoping that my current dream in life will come true. Heh, if that doesn't work, I can always find work at EB or another gaming store and continue my web design business on a part time basis, which might at least start me off in the industry.

Abe Babe...

I met "most" of the old OWI crew that are now with Sammy. I recall meeting Fazard, Paul O'Connor, Chris Ulm, Sean Miller and Eric Yiskis. I am 99% sure that I met Mauricio as well, but can't remember meeting Ivan Power.

Even more impressive was the fact that they all remembered me!
