I'm confused, "Stranger" has 2 transformations?

There was a thread awhile back Ican't remember, that talked about if they wanted the Steef to be the minotaur design again.

But I thought it would be 2 transformations. First on is the human like, and the second is the minotaur.

Has this been scrapped?

He was never goign to be able to transform. Original concepts had Stranger as a four legged creature, but it seems this idea has been scrapped for a two legged design.
What I'm wondering is; on one of the wanted posters it says most embarassing moment; being captured by a steef
That looks like it means Steef is the name of a species, not a character. I wonder if thats correct, or if it was just a grammatical error...

In a photo, Lorne had a really really high res poster of a steef its centaur form being all spiritual like.

I'm still adamant that the two legged design is a disguise, and that the minotaur and more brute-like design will be revealed mid game (as as Inhabitant Profile hinted on their website).

Im almost 100% positive that they haven't scrapped the four legged Steef from the game, it was originally planned to be a big part of the story one way or another; and yes the species name is Steef kinda like the Steers we have here on Earth.

Sam was an important plot part in MO... and it was scrapped, I guess we will not know until we have the game in our console

Yeah but she didn't "make" the story. From what I've seen and heard the main stoyline of this game has to do with his transformation somehow over the course of time.

Or maybe it's part of a steef's lifecycle ... you know, kinda like how a tadpole develops legs over time and becomes a frog.
Maybe steefs are born two legged, and eventually develop a more centaurian body...?
I dunno.
Speculation is fun.

I do believe the revelation of the centaur part is major to the storyline.

I believe they keep this generally secret (well relatively) because they want the cinematic to be a surprise to the player.

On another note, your sig is real good Dave!

I've always liked it when books/movies/whatever reference pop culture.

yeah, alf mentioned this a while ago. I can't find which one it was though - I think it was march 04 (the link for which is stuffed up in the archive)

steef is a species name, and not the name of the main character...

Abe also could change in a centour like creature: the shrykull

Maybe OWI goes spiritual again, where stranger changes into a mythical creature.

Ooh that sounds like the most interesting theory so far. Although this game dosnt seem as spirit-based as the others. It looks all guns and rough stuff. COOL!

Thanks guys for the info, but from Stranger's two legged form to 4 legs, how exactly would that transformation take place?

It looks strange in my mind.

Because its odd and this is Oddworld and strange things are simply normal for Oddwordians. Look at Abe he has the power to transform himself literally into a monster or god known as the Shrykull. I believe it will be similar to Stranger but not as exactly the same. Perhaps his transformation is him matureing. The Centaur creature will be in this game because they were testing it in the X-Facter. That dinky centaur was probabaly the middle part of the process of him turning into a full grown Steef. I think whats going to happen throughout the game is the growth into the centaur is a gradual transformation from the two legged creature to the little baby centaur type creature to finally a full grown Steef. Steef was designed to be this type of creature thus its not going to change. Did the design of Munch in Munch's Oddessy change by much? Did the design for Abe in Abe's Oddessy change? Of course not maybe a few minor tweks here and there but not by much. Stranger as said by Lorne Lanning is a new kind of Minotaur or Centaur type of creature.

Well you know I asked that, because most of the screenshots we have seen are Stranger in a human form, not with the 4 legs.

I thought that feature was scrapped.

But I agree on the part that it might be later on in the game were he matures and becomes that.

But I wonder how the gameplay will change when he does become that form. I like Stranger just in his two legged form in my opinion.

I think Steef has 4 legs. It is possible that Stranger can somehow hide them, though I'm still a little weary as to how. We kicked around this conflict a few threads ago and are still resting on "maybe".

Lovin' the new smilies, thanks Death!

I think this part from an Inhabitant interview could hold a lot:
:
Currently we are ramping up to do a very revealing movie that will occur part way through the game.
Well, not a lot, but I think he is most certainly refering to Stranger 'revealing' his true steef form.

you will play as a humanoid first, so the player can easely relate to him, that's for sure,
perhaps later you will transform in a centaur, but you allready relate to him and are used to his personallity

Wow, those are both absolutely fantastic observations. I salute you both.

While it may seem crutial to the story of Stranger that some transformation between his humanoid form and his centaur form takes place, it's really not unfeasible to suggest that the concept has actually been scrapped, or at least altered into something we couldn't expect.

Sagitarius had a bow and arrows, crossbows weren't around in his time, I guess.

Greek mythological run of the mill centaurs were very often portrayed with bows and arrows.

Yeah I see the similarities, but why are we talking about that? Surely no one is assuming this links to ancient greece? or star signs? Cos thats just...no.

It's a great inspiration, IMO. There was an FOM who said if he worked for OWI, he'd use Latin- or Greek-inspired names for creatures. Maybe this is OWI's tribute to that idea. It's subtle enough not to be gaudy, and is a good contrast against the Western theme, and the Eastern designs of the Salamanders we've seen.
