English, of course, I've taken one year of Spanish (I could probably live fairly easily in Mexico for a month or two, I think I have a good grasp on the basics), I know odd little snippets of German and French (ich bin ein auslander, j'mon je de ouitre malad), a few of those cool Latin phrases everyone knows (non illegitamus carburundum), and maybe three sentences in Japanese. I took Spanish this last year because it was the only foreign language offered to eighth graders and it beat the alternative electives, but my passion is Japanese. I am crazy about all things Japanese, and hope to go to Japan for an extended period of time some day, so I'm taking Japanese all throughout high school and into college. I will probably take eight years of it.
And maybe if I get a chance I'll learn Cantonese as well.

Oh, by the way, if you want to make decent money by doing virtually nothing, become a sign language interpretor. I'm doing the odd interpretation jobs and loving every second of it.

Plus, deaf people usually have amazing things to say. Learning sign language and striking up a conversation is not only enjoyable, but tends to brighten up the persons day.

Do it.

I've only taken two Spanish classes in high school. I don't really plan to take any more foreign language classes. A while back, I really wanted to learn Japanese, but now I'm not so devoted. I mean, it would be cool to be fluent in another language, but I don't think I would have the time to learn a language as complicated as Japanese... or any other language for that matter.

In retrospect, I should have taken German instead of Spanish. I find the language much more interesting. I'm never going to use what little Spanish I have learned. It's only good for random little comedy bits. For example, when a customer asked me if Secret Window is good, I replied "Es muy ventana."

You see, stupid stuff like that can really brighten your day if you rent out videos for rednecks.

But if there is one positive thing I've taken away from my high school language classes, it's that I can now speak in a semi-convincing Spanish accent... even if I've completely forgotten about grammar and sentence structure.

My right hand gets tired because it has arthritis [car accident. Boring story.]

But it's nothing too terrible. And at $13.00 an hour, I can stand a bit of pain.

Don't question DI. I did once, and I'm typing with my tongue if you catch my drift.

I can say my name and that I'm eating in German. Otherwise it's Swedish and English. I can also say 'yes' in japanese (I think it's japanese)

Wow DI, you have upped yourself a few pegs on my peg thing as well. Or you would have if I believed humans can be measured by points or pegs or any sort of increments. Anyway.

Umm I think I may have made a mistake in my first post. I said "non illegitamus carburundum". I think I may have gotten it wrong. Does anyone know how to say "don't let the bastards grind you down" in Latin?
