Native Stranger... an agricultural themed game?

I just saw the article at Game Spot and from the pictures i've seen it looks as though it's going to be a game set mostly outside. I've got to say if this is the case i'd be quite disappointed. Sorry if Oddworld have already made this jump in the 3rd game as i haven't played it. The reason i liked the Oddworld series on Playstation was because of it's industrial themes and the "busy looking" backgrounds with loads of pipes etc. This isn't to say i didn't enjoy the parts of the Oddworld games set outside and in the temples, i just feel it'd be a shame to loose what they have already built. Perhaps i'm jumping the gun here (which i probably am) Pleased to see EA Games will be publishing the game, looks like i'll have to get the PS2 out the cupboard I'd be interested to hear your views.

Thanks Again,

Leeum

Which pics?

I think there will be some indoors, in little buldings. Probaly then you have to fight bosses, you see something indoor at background of those Outlaw pics.

I wouldn't say it had an agricultural theme, more an agricultural setting. The theme would be more about hunting. The Clakkerz seem to rely on farming, and the whole region definitely seems less industrialised.

However, we've nothing to say there won't be great indoor areas and factories, too. There's the dam that Lorne mentioned in his interview, plus, if the image Oddish found (which had to be removed) is what it appears to be to me, there's an industrial town in the game. But I don't think we're going to see the kind of sprawling hubs of consumerism we've enjoyed in previous titles. We're moving closer to the heart of Oddworld's cities, yet in a kind of side step, appropriate for the nature of the game to the Quintology.

Lorne promised that there would be a massive facility or two in this game. I think he said something like "Rupture Farms is an outhouse compared to it". Also there is mention of large fortresses, but alot of the gameplay will take place outside. According to Abe Babe, it features a very large roaming land scape that seems to go for miles, ridden with towns, facilities, fortresses, forests, and lakes. This game is indeed based more around the wilderness, but it's not necessarily agricultural, unless Stranger does some farming

Although the industrial environments are always cool looking, I prefer the native environments. From what I have played, the native environments are totally stunning, absolutely beautiful. I am glad that we will be able to see more of the native side of Oddworld.

I didn't get to see any indoor facilities, but I only played such a small amount of the game, so I cannot comment on that. But I did explore a large environment and visit a town ... and that is what was so stunning, the environment. Wow!

LOL @ Sligslinger ... I just can't imagine Stranger donning the overalls and pitchfork and taking up farming!!!

Thanks for your replies Maybe i've judged too quick, it seems like Oddworld are aiming for the right balance. I've got to admit i enjoyed the native side of the games although i prefered exploring the deep depths of the facilities. Back when Sony launched the PS2 i was really hoping Oddworld were going to adapt the new power and technology of the console and use it to their advantage to make the environments even more stunning, even for 2D the quality and thought put into them was truly amazing. It seems personal choice does come into play and to be honest i should get outside more. Perhaps with me being really interested in computers and being an electronically minded and motivated person i overlook the tranquility nature has to offer. I now hope the game will interest me more in that area and really create one of those titles that you can always play and never get sick of. Thank you for sharing views, keep them coming

Leeum

EDIT: Sorry if this is turning into my life story or something, With Oddworld games i've always been able to express my thoughts and feelings.

which is self-defeating as I can't remember what I wrote to stop myself doing it again. But I do love the irony that Xavier was warning me that I may get a warning

It's only self defeating if you prove you still can't avoid posting things that are of no relevence to the topic, or which serve no purpose. If you must know, you made an entire post saying just:

:
*hint hint*
Just check your posts before you post 'em. I stop myself so many times by doing that.

I double posted...? Silly OWF.
