Oddworld mention in May 2004 OXM issue

Sorry if it's already been mentioned. I meant to post this when I got the issue. I don't have a scanner but it's only a tiny blurb with a pic of Abe so I'll transcribe it.

From May 2004 Official Xbox Magazine:

:
A Much Wider Oddworld

A little Mudokon told us that the future of the Oddworld franchise may not reside with Microsoft, and maybe not even exclusively with the Xbox. The word around Scrabania is that developer Oddworld Inhabitants is shopping Abe's next adventure around to different publishers, and that the next title in the series may go multi-platform. As long as there's still plenty of chanting and farting on our favorite platform, then we'll be okay with that.
Very lame article, and probably not even true, but I am excited to see an Oddworld mention in OXM again. Means that the next Oddworld game isn't that far off. I've been combing each month's issue for news, and so far this is the first I've seen in ages.

I think, in the future if possible, that OWI should become their own publisher. Sure, it costs more money because they have to fund their own games, but they end up making more in the long run.

Ah. Maybe my thoughts that Oddworld would stray from the Xbox were correct. Or, the magazine is going off rumours from the Oddworld fan community, and I was wrong

I've always thought that XBOX has been a backward step for OWI - hopefully they will move on to new consoles and PCs - machines with far more power than the XBOX.

That might be happening Oddguy. OWI has always been a silent achiever they want to create their product to their vision. It makes complete logical sense for them to actually publish their own games instead of somebody else. That way everything is to their specs and vision. Nothing would be sacrificed like with Munch.

I think its because OWI is so secretive these days that all these websites are literally comming up with crazy information that is half right and very vague.

Who knows I bet they already have a new publisher or maybe that information is wrong and it was based on a rumer. Who knows ya know?

Everything and anything that is announced to magazines is announced on the OWI website. I don't understand why you would trust anyone other than oddworld.com for your news on releases...

Totally agree with you there! I guess the magazines are getting anxious for some news on it too, hoping to do reviews on it. OI isn't giving them much at all. I just really enjoyed seeing something Oddworld in OXM.

Well...

I don't know a lot about the Official Xbox Mag, and to be honest the most I'd buy would be the occasional copy of PCGAMER, but what I do know is that news is best gotten straight from the source, so you hear it how it is, rather than how somebody interpereted it.

It would be a very smart move.

Oddworld Inhabitants as a publisher? I'd find that pretty unlikely, as it does cost a hell of a lot of money. Maybe when they break into the movie business (if they haven't already) they would have enough to support themselves. If Oddworld Inhabitants ever did, though, I'm sure it'd be great. All the plans, like figurines, art books (etc) could come true!

Hmm. Publishing involves distribution, manufacturing, advertising... Alcar you're right it's far too expensive, and they're two completely different things.

Indeed, and if they find a publisher as great as GT Interactive appeared to be for Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus, then I'm sure only good things can come of it.

Question is, are there any good publishers out there any more?

ubisoft is quite good... but a bit too comercial...
they are acting very misterious about that publicher, and I don't know much publishers that don't give ANY info about their game, plus the new publisher should be very proud to publish oddworld, I wonder how they resist to scream it to the world

I'm glad they went to Xbox. The only thing is, is that if they do start switching machines, their fans will also buy the machines to play them. So i am hoping that they put their games on all consoles/PC's but make sure that the graphics are as good as they can be on the machines used.

I completely agree with you. OWI would need a larger fanbase to make enough moolah to support themselves as their own publisher. I hope Stranger attracts more fans and maybe in the future this could be possible.
