Just played Munch demo... Boy, what a great idea to scare off customers, OWI!

I just played the Munch demo at Sam Goody and boy, is it suckalicious!

"Let's have the demo contain no action, no enemies, no fun, just a whole lot of running around and jumping and stuff! Everyone likes running and jumping and stuff!"

What were they thinking!? Ususally people like to play demos before they play the game to get a taste of the gameplay, and the gameplay they usually want to taste is the gameplay that everyone is talking about! For instance, a slig or two would've been nice. Maybe a puzzle, even... But, no. They decided to give us the boring ol' "Find x number of something-or-others" gameplay. People are gonna play this and think, "This game sucks. Better not buy that Oddworld game."

Go play the Devil May Cry and MGS2 demos. They are fun, give a good taste of the gameplay, and leave me WANTING the game so bad, without giving everything away. The Munch's Oddyssee demo left me thinking, "Just another boring, below average platformer made just to sit there and gather dust."

I'm sorry, but I was expecting some sligs, a puzzle or two, and maybe some kind of interaction between Abe and other mudokons, or between Munch and fuzzles.

How much is it?

Demos always do that Daniel. They never give you the good parts And when you get the game, it will be okay.

Doesnt matter if the demos good or not.
Munch owns you, him, her, and Mister Clinton.
If you dont buy it, you will be missing out.

No, Pinky, demos don't always do that. Demos shouldn't do that. Demos should at least be fun. They shouldn't have the best elements of the game, but they should have good elements of the game.

Edit: The demo was booooooooriiiiiiiing! You had to go around and collect 99 herbs or mushrooms or shrubs or something. There was nobody in it except for Abe and Munch.

Oh that's gay!

The FF8 demo kinda sucked. But when I got the game, it was fun. Demos I had were like that. I don't know about MO.

ah yes, the ole' gay simmoly....

anyhoo I've played the Demo many times, in fact on the way back from my Girlfriend's I stopped over at Target to see what was happening and played it again. It wasn't until i read this post that I realized how bad it must seem to "outsiders". To me it was fine because I've known Abe and now Munch for a long time and know what's comming but to someone who hasn't been exposed to the media and info we have been one might think that the game is very lame.

On a side note they had the Gamecube demo up finally. If we're talking about boring demos try getting through the Luigi's Mansion demo...I also find it humorous that the X-Box is so massively big while the Gamecube is even smaller than the NES...

The demo was (IS) a quick fix. A arcade romp of collecting and running and jumping like a chicken without a head. Totally not what Oddworld or Munch is about. The real deal is just what all us real fans know it to be and hope for. Deep involving puzzles, action, stealth and more puzzles, with great original characters/creatures in vast and great detailed locations. With all kinds of effects and eye-candy. Keep your faith everyone, Munch is for real.

Eibu, I am not an outsider. I have beaten both AO and AE. I love the oddworld games. Which is why I was so surprised about how bad the demo was. First of all, it sucks. Second of all, OWI would have been better off just not making a demo in the first place. Like Steel Shark said, that is not what Munch's Oddyssee is all about. But that is certainly how it will seem to people not totally familiar with oddworld. Bad OWI. They had better make a good demo, and quick.

Yo, Daniel, feel the breeze, take a chill pill man. Chill out, I'm sure M.O will rock every oddworld fans world! The demo's are usually stupid like that. For instance, the demo for overboard was really gay, then I saw the pictures when I finished and it was more fun looking at the pictures than playing the damn game. The demo for soul reaver wasn't that great either, you encountered let's see, 9 enemies and once you get the hang of it, the game is a cinch. And fifa 99, you can choose between 2 teams, and only those two teams can play a single game. And that game is too easy anyway, I usually beat munich like, 5/6 nil or something.

You get what I mean Danny?

I have played ICO, SH2, DMC, Soul reaver 2 all in 45 hours total with the PS2, wow, the PS2 really dissapointed me with there longevity. The depth and scope were lacking. I sure hope they start giving more.Forget about demo's,the real deal is what's important in the end.

Shrek, Munch, Azurik, Halo, without Multiplayer options offer a total of 300 hours or so of gaming. Another sign of XBOX giving the people not only more for there money along with very advanced everything.

Steel, Soul Reaver 2 isn't out for another 5 months. How can you have played it?

Drippik, yes, I think most people know about it, but it's not coming out for at least 5-7 years. It will be at least 16 times as powerful as the PS2, which works out to roughly 5 times as powerful as the XBox.

I was never reffering to you as "one".
Obviously since you're here on these forums I wasn't talking about you but to other people in general.

And Soul Reaver 2 is out, I was suprised to see it being sold at said Target...

i was also VERY dissapointed in the munch demo. i completely understand saving the best parts of the game for the people who actually go out and buy it, but he demo really did suck. I'm buying the x-box just for munch, and i have a good feeling that the actual game is going to be outstanding, but just running around collecting 99 spooce was a drag. if that was all i had to base my opinion of munch on, i certainly wouldn't buy it. I've talked to a bucnh of people who've played the demo, and a common theme is,"just what in the hell are you supposed to do in that game?" and i can't say that i blame them for not buying the game at launch. i think OWI could have done a bit better with the demo.

uh..............the game has been out for a couple of weeks in the US. o check the stores.

Good try 1, 2, Middle... Seemed to backfire on you,( You just jumped on that did'nt you) yes I have played the game in a very short 10-12 hours. Looks like I'll get more of that type game with 100+ hour Azurik on the good ol' XBOX real soon.Azurik is soooo much more in all that counts, including 10x the length.

PS2 will be 2005, XBOX 2, will be 2006. Can you just see the XBOX then, WOW and double WOW. Next step after that will be Lawnmower man type virtual reality gaming, cooool.

Have a nice XBOX day, I'm having one........

D'oh! I just had a look at the Soul Reaver demo from two months ago, and it does say on the box "play the demo two months before the game's release date!". I feel like a right dipstick now! It turns out that I read the five months bit on another demo and got the two mixed up.

Oh well, at least that wasn't as silly as the time I got Richard Hawtin, Richard Dawkins and Steven Hawking mixed up! I really confused the guys at WipEoutZone when I started talking about Steve Hawtin when I meant Richie Hawtin.

Oh yeah, in future, when you're talking to/about me, just call me Middlesboogie. 'One, Two,' is a title, like 'Mr' or 'Ms'.

Demos are sometimes cruddy but theirs one thing the people could have done: give a big ass piece of frenetic heaven! Case in point:Raystorm the one LEVEL they give you is incredible! After playing it I bought the game about two years ago and still play it on a regular basis! P.S. How is the big green x doin' in sales, whippin' PS2's ass I hope!

Okay, Daniel is right, and the reason is that a game demo is supposed to be a somewhat interactive advertisement. But videogame demos ARE netorious for sucking. The FFVIII example was a great one Pinky. I, personally, have never played the demo and admit that I have little ground to stand on. But Joe the Intern, my evil colleague, has. I trust his opinion over anyone here's 100 to 1. He said that the demo clearly exibits the basic gameplay controls that were so controversial the first time around, and now much simplified. He almost mentioned that it was obviously based around the fine graphics and 3D environments. All in all, its not a "HEY, BUY THIS GAME CUZ WE'RE GONNA SHOW YA EVERY DAMN THING BECAUSE WE DONT EVEN THINK THAT YOU WOULD HAVE THE INTELLIGENCE TO CHECK IT OUT AND DECIDE ON WHETHER YOU REALLY LIKE IT OR NOT" demo. It's a "Hey, we're those guys that you kept seeing but never seemed to make your cut and we're back better than ever; and if you ever played the original and didn't like it, than you can see that we changed to fit your specifics: easier controls, 3D, great graphics, and we still havent lost the gameplay, storyline, and loveable characters that you might have enjoyed."

i'm not really stressing out over it, i mean i have the game sitting right next to me. but if the demo was half of what the real game is, then i'm going to be sorely dissapointed. play it for yourslef and see how terrible it is. OWI should kick thier own asses for putting that out to the masses knowing good and well that the masses are idiots.

I agree, the demo was pretty crappy.
The ff8 demo, however, was the coolest thing I had ever seen at the time. It made me mess myself.

When I play the demo in the stores, I get somewhere on a hill near a factory and there's a bunch of land mines surrounding it and I dunno how to slow Abe down so he doesn't fall onto the mines and make the controller shake.

Speaking of the not-very-good demo, the same demo was in this month's OXM (Official XBOX Magazine) Disc. I would only get it if you want to see how Klime works.
