Lindsey you don't want to be drunk because its the worst thing that can happen to you. Trust me on this you can't think you can't walk streight and worst of all the next morning you will have the worst hang over. In other words it the most best intense feeling you will ever have.

So what I am telling you is live your life and be better than that, because in the long run Lindsey, if you decide to drink and do all that stuff you said ultimately you would die at early age and you don't want that.

I grew up next to a liquor plant. I smelled alcochol every morning and may I say yuck. That is why I'll never pick up a beer can as long as I live.

Okay Lindsey, it's time for a little talk.
You're what, 12 now? Well, I thought it was about time I told you this. You see, you have plenty of time to grow up and experience things. So I wouldn't worry. Just enjoy life and take it in as it comes to ya.

Now, about drinking. 21 is legal drinking age, so I wouldn't encourage you to break zee law. Wait.
R movies...wait until your parents think you're mature enough to handle it. If you have annoying parents who won't let you see R movies ever, just move out when you're 18. Then you can make your own standards. This same thing applies to sex. I'm not going to push my beliefs on you. Part of being an American is freedom. Also, driving and dating go together. 16 is perfect age for those.
Phew! I think that was one of many talks.

My baby is growing up so fast!

I heart sex.

Not a big drinker. Or drugs for that matter. I'm not some militant anti-drug person or anything, it's just the opportunity to endulge rarely arises for me.

PA, you're an idiot. Leave the advice for people who have actually lived their lives.

'Whats it like to get drunk'

T'is fun. Really. Just waking up in the morning and thinking "Shit, what did i do last night?" and then have it slowly seep back into your memory is the most amusing experience ever, and having people recall amusing stories. Wow. I got wasted on Saturday and i'm still giggling like a poked Pig in Heat.

'fall in love'

Awful. I hate every minute of love. It makes me nice to people and i have trust issues so blah.

The others i can't comment on so poo, but i don't get depressed. You should move to England, over here you only have to be 18 to drink so thats highly thooperlicious. I do wonder why you have to be 21 in Merkinville though...hmmmm...

For the ultimate experience, why not have drunk sex while watching an R rated movie in your car.

I love getting pissed (if you people don't know, pissed is another word for drunk), like Jacob said, it's so funning, it makes you do and say things that you wouldn't usually do and while you're doing them you think, "what am I saying" or "what am I doing" but because you're pissed, you think **** it.
Then in the morning you're like "what the hell did I do that that for?"

I was in love once, but that's over now, and I loved every minute of it, apart from the arguements (but I loved making up after an arguement)

Out here it's not uncommon to get drunk, no matter what age you are. I've gotten drunk once or twice, but I did it without excessive drinking, I couple of martinis mixed with a few wine-coolers will get your ass pretty drunk alot faster than you think. Wild Turkey is like 85% alcohal and it's one of my favorites, I don't enjoy the taste but I think it's fun seeing how fast you can chug it and the burning sensation that follows feels very liberating. Besides, the fact that it's illegal is half the fun. Life is too short so have fun while you can I say

All I can say is that while you are in love, it is the most wonderful and fantastic feeling there is. Probably ever. In the whole universe. Period.
But if you suddenly get dropped, then it is the extreme opposite. You hate everything. You don't want to do anything. Everything seems to be too much trouble, or too annoying, or it makes you too mad to care about what others think.
I was/am in love. I say it because I was dumped, but I am still in love with her, and she says she still loves me.
But if you ever date someone for almost a year, and then they drop you because they think they have feelings for someone else, then what can you do?
So I say that being in love is fantastically wonderful and ultimately great, but being dumped sucks the big one.

Hmmmm!

I know this is an old old thread but I can't pass over it without having my two cents worth!

Right... first and formost... *ahem... CB switches into teacher mode*

Alcohol... the common name for Ethanol... is a chemical and a DRUG! Therefore it deserves... nay demands.... respect and sense!

A recent British newspaper article stated that if alocohol was discovered today, rather than it being discovered way way back with the Greeks and Romans, then it would be classified as a CLASS A drug... on par with Cocaine and Heroin!!!!

Physically... in the long term excessive alcohol use at a young age can have drastic, detrimental effects. Your liver is not fully developed until you are at least 18/21 (simplistically your liver is resonsible for removing poison and toxins from your body... alcohol is a poison!) so the harmful effect of alcohol is increased!!

In the short term alcohol impairs balance and coordination... you may fall and hurt yourself... alcohol thins the blood and in doing so lowers body temperature... if you're out very drunk in the cold... you may get hypothermia! Obviously vomiting is a factor... but it is also dangerous... vomit whilst in a drunken coma and you may choke to death. The morning after the night before can be aweful too.. "The Hangover" Dizziness, vomiting (again) diahorear, stomach cramps, severe headache, a mouth that feels like a Bear has shat in it..it is not a great feeling!

Mentally... alcohol impairs your judgement... you may find you behave entirely differently to you sober self... you may do things you would not normally do and end up in dangerous places with dangerous people. You will do stupid things and say stupid things! It may increase your confidence... but it is only temporary... and you'll feel even worse in the morning when you remember the stupid things you've said and done. More strange is that the morning after the night before you are till not mentally right... you may feel "out of sorts" find it hard to settle and concentrate... try doing anything feeling like that and you'll soon see you just can't!

The legal drinking age limit is there for a reason... not to stop your fun but to stop you from getting hurt.

*CB switches out of teacher mode*

Getting drunk can be enjoyable... you will feel happier for a short while (but some people can become depressed and violent!) you'll be more confident and the whole night will seem great. There is a fine line between drunken and danderously wasted though... so you have to know your limits (this does not mean practice drinking! Just to drink sensible amoints over a prolonged time... not half a bottle of vodka in 1 hour... like someone very very close to my heart when she was 17... em... me!) and always drink in a safe environment with people you know! Never drink with complete strangers and let yourself get too drunk... anything could happen! (PM me I have a story to tell... but not over an open forum!)

But ultimately... drinking is fine... as long as you are sensible... and to me (as someone who knows!) getting wasted on cheap cider with 15 other friends in the field at the back of school... isn't! Basically if you get ID'd in bars and clubs... whats the point of drinking?

Just a few thoughts... sorry couldn't not!

CB xx

A few months ago, my brother who was 18 at the time, and still is and therefore is allowed to legally drink drunk way too much, and as Clairebear said, caused the blood to become thin and extremely cold.
He walked home whilst it was almost snowing in jeans and a thin shirt and then almost died from hypothermia (I think it was that.. :s). He most likely would have died had he not been found by one of his friends and driven home in a car, where my mum bathed him in a very hot bath - much to his embarrassment after recovering.

Yes... Up here in the NorthEast it gets ridiculously cold... we're on the same latitude line as Moscow!

Just before Christmas (I think it was) a young man ... not a boy!... of 24 was walking home drunk from a friend's stag night... dressed as young men do for a night out in jeans and a short sleeve shirt! He was only walking from one village to another 2 miles tops but he was very drunk and must have been too tired/confused ie drunk to go any further than half way into his journey...

...he was found dead the next day... curled up under a hedge at the side of the road.. where police said he may have tried to sleep off the booze to continue walking later on.

That is not the only incident I've heard of!

Booze can be bad... very bad!

I believe Alcohol is okay occasionally. However, going off on a tangent, I find smoking to be digusting, and have no appeal what so ever. Alcohol, if taken in moderation is fine.

Alcar...
Oh dear... I smoke...

It is aweful too. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone! Its a horrible disgusting habit that I picked up whilst studying at University...

DON'T START SMOKING GUYS!

I try to kid myself I'm not addicte but I am... its not cool nor is it nice.

I smell disgusting my clothes and my hair... my boyfriend (thank God he's a smoker!) rests his chin on my head when we're standing in cinema/bar queues and stuff and all I can think is "Eeeurgh! He'll be able to smell my smokey hair!" as even after just washing as soon as you light up your hair kinda soakes up the smell!

My index and middle finger and their nails are YELLOW! I can't get rid of it! It looks hideous!

Not to mention the health problems... I already get so many colds I'm never without one and walking up the five flights of stairs to my office feels like a marathon! I'm only 23!

DON'T START SMOKING!

Drink in moderation but don't smoke!

And Clairebear: That was a nice speech

My advice: You can drink, but not too much!! You don't think right when you're drunk!! OK, shure it's fun waking up the next day asking "What the hell did i do last night??". That's right, what the hell DID you do last night?? Who knows if you have done something illegal??? Drink is fun, but not too much!

Yes there is nothing like watching a friend die from alcohol poisoning because he overdrank at a High School party, went into the bathroom to vomit up blood, and passed out on the floor, thus escaping notice for over 2 hours.

Drinking in moderation is okay. But I seriously think people underestimate the effects of alcohol. It can be addictive. It can kill you in so many ways - liver failure, poisoning, or even getting into a car after having had a few drinks.

Moderation is key.

And as for love- well you will fall in and out of love many times in your life. Enjoy each experience and learn something to better yourself as a person.

I guess the best advice I could give is, don't try and grow up too fast. Because I'll tell you there's rarely one day that goes by where I don't wish (if for only a split second, while I'm paying my mortgage or taking crap from my boss or trying to get my car boosted because it died) I was 10 years old again.
